a much belated- wa-hoooo! to this post. I love the Yellowstone, though it's been *gasp* over 30 years. I worked there for one summer during college, cleaning rooms at Old Faithful Inn and enjoying the most amazing hiking on my days off. And you were there in the 'off' season- lots of snow before June and after August. The employees traditionally celebrate 'Christmas in August' on Aug 25th, as it's just prior to most contracts ending and folk going back to their other lives....and because there are frequently flurries by the end of the month!
The elk, the bison, the thermal pools and geysers....and it would all be gorgeous anyway were it 'merely' streams and rivers and forest and alpine meadows.
