A thought struck me the other day.
I've read so much dystopian fiction; 1984, Brave New World, Anthem and We, that sort of thing - in which the author's point is "whoa man, imagine if society was all totalitarian and stuff, and everyone was told what to do, how to think and feel and behave, kept numb and inhuman and told it was all for their own ( Read more... )

a lot of orwells concepts such as doublethink / newspeak etc. are the very models used today in news and media. condemning something while promoting it...condemning sex while promoting it...condemning drugs while corporations sell sickness etc. etc. i probably see more similarities in western culture than in north korea to be honest. the only difference is, asians are stupidly blatantly out in the open that their citizens are under an iron grip - and the western world simply hide it more with mcdonalds and australian idol!
