while i suppose i should thank gutenberg for his printing press and sparking the age of the mass production of books, i think religion as a whole has been one of the worst events in all of human history. i see literally no redeeming value in it whatsoever. the very essence of it necessitates conflict.

I don't know, I'm kind of thinking that the worst event in human history was the release of Cher's CD "Believe", but maybe that's just me.

Imagine what the world would be like without organised religion. Imagine the people who would not have died, the cultures that would not have been destroyed, the psychological damage that would not be inflicted.

Seems to me that our society is amazing despite religion, and certainly not because of it.

indeed.

i don't mean to say that there aren't some nice people who are religious, but overall it has been a horrible burden that we need to rid ourselves of as soon as possible. i see it as the main barrier to true progress as a species. ignorance i can tolerate, but willful ignorance i cannot.
