But wouldn't they need to pack up for that? I know coyotes are starting to pack up in some places, but here they get as large as mom-and-kids until she kicks the kids out.
Yeah, i don't know what dictates the size of a loose "pack". Around here the groups tend to be larger, for some reason. Most I see are alone, but larger groups are not unheard of...that's when they tend to harass dogs. When they howl around here at night, they manage to sound like dozens! But that's many family groups all around us.
One of our greatest worries when our dog had cancer surgery was that she'd attract coyotes or other predators. The only coyote seen was the silver one that came to collect her spirit...
On the other paw, pets don't just have to worry about animal preds around here as seen in this story about a lady who was shot when a poor-aiming hunter mistook her dogs for deer.
Mistook her dogs for the tail of a deer??? So he decided to shoot at a deers' tail? He should not only lose his hunting license, he should lose his job. You really want a State Trooper running around shooting at things he "thinks" he sees?
There's also the matter of his taking that shot at a few minutes past legal hunting hours. Again, who potshots at a deer's butt in the dim light of dusk? Irresponsible.
