I finally remembered the thing I was going to post about. I know you are super excited! I got a new Diva Cup! That is, a new medical-grade silicone menstrual cup! I've been using the same Diva Cup since ~2006, and I decided it was time for a replacement. About 7 years out of one $35 cup? At 25 days per cycle that's ~102 periods working out to ~$0. I am finally getting on good terms with my Mooncup-I have to ignore the little illustration of where it has to go, which makes no sense at all. Last time I needed it (a few days ago) I was very pleased with myself for making the pesky thing work, as I have had such problems before. It's not a thing we talk about enough, and we need to share information, so I was very happy to see your post.

Special soap, hah! Mine just recommends boiling it, which seems entirely sensible.

It took me a good year before I could wear mine confidently without a panty liner or similar. It is very different from wearing a tampon! I don't know that mine sits where the illustration shows either. I mostly just shove it in there and it sits where it wants. :) Even if I mess around with it, it seems to migrate to the proper position, and it doesn't leak unless it's full, so I don't really worry about it too much.

The thing that has been the biggest help for me is figuring out how to get it to pop open, and thus be 'sealed'. I do the 'run my finger around it' method, though the new one is a little less stiff and takes a bit more finagling and doesn't really 'pop' the same way my old one did. But once it is all the way open, I'm set!

I generally just rinse mine out in the shower during my period, and then give it a good soap and rinse when I'm done. I should probably boil it more often just to be extra sanitary, but I don't do it that often.

I love my divacup, I have no idea how I ever lived without it. I've only used it for like... a year and a half or so but I took to it like a duck to water. It makes my life so easy when I'm on the road, I used to pack billions of tampons. Why didn't I buy one years ago?!

aren't they the greatest?! I might have picked it up quicker if I'd used mine more consistently in the beginning, but now I'm a pro!

I always always want to proselytize to everyone I know about how really great they are, but I think it gets kinda weird fast. But really! So great! So functional! So cheap! So compact!
