I realized as I was colour coding my class schedule with my written agenda notes with my syllabuses hung above my desk - I ended up sticking to colour coding because with my dyscalculia, I have trouble keeping the course codes separate in my mind ( Read more... )

Actually, there is a mental "condition" where people associate words and concepts with colors. It's not really a detrimental condition, it's more like an unusual form of cognitive association. Scientists are fascinated by it because it gives unusual insight into how the brain works by presenting a more extreme case of what most people already do a little of.

Is it synaesthesia? That's sort of a mis-matching of senses. My roommate sees letters as colours and she calls it synaesthesia, but I'm not sure if that's actually it. I only do it with my classes because I can't keep the course codes straight in my head.

color coding is probably one of my favorite things ever, though I think this is mostly because I'm a very visual person

I always wrote my notes in different colors based on the day of the week, then when taking the test I could always remember what color I wrote the info in and visualize it on the page in order to recollect it.

isn't it funny the way our minds work?

I can always visualize my notes too during exams and stuff! It's why even though I take notes on my laptop, I always use note cards to jot down important points and highlight them so I can "see" them later.
