So, after losing our roommate and being unable to find another on short notice, we had little choice but to move from our apartment. Fine. It was nice, but not optimal and it was only a space to keep our things

Whaaaa? Does she work for a large company or with the actual owners? Cause I try to support locally owned business, but that sounds like some suspicious working with the owners pettiness. It's a good thing you guys are living rent free now.
Yeah, it's a small-ish company, but they have branches all over. Where she worked was with the owner/founder, though and he's the one that flipped out and told her she couldn't have her two weeks. He's a good guy, I think, but has no idea at all how to run a business and his partner takes out all of her frustrations about that on the lower employees. It's all ugly and stupid.
Ok first of all...what a bunch of dicks. Seriously? If they are going to be like that good riddance. For realz. You guys are better off in the long run without that kind of element in your lives.
I'm really excited for the new changes in your lives, it sounds like you are on the brink of making a dream come true! I believe in you guys, between you there is some incredible vision and ability. Cant wait to see what you come up with!
Love and Hugs K
ps. This may be the pot calling the kettle black but, update your damn journal more often!
Yeah, they've been running her ragged for a good long while now and something had to give. Most recently, they decided after she took a sick day for stress, that when she came back she should do what usually amounts to about 60 solid work hours in three days. Thankfully, they didn't make her stick to the five hour day schedule for it and she got it done by doing overtime and busting her ass, but it was still lame as hell. There was also never any reason given for the change from the usual deadlines.
So, we're home working together. It's cool, just scary. We have so many new ideas and I really can't wait to be able to show you things! I do need to start posting here more. Facebook is so useless now I can't bear to look at it. So, coming back to LJ might not be so bad.
I miss you, lady. I hope things get settled in your life and that you can come up and visit some time.
Eh, this reply is super-late, but it's good to see you on LJ!
Hope you are getting all settled in. Sorry to hear about the fuss with Terana's work. That just sounds like some weirdness with that company, wtf. It was unreasonable even before they got to the assistant part, much less the 'dont come back' part. :P Hopefully it'll work better for you both just to work from home. It sounds like you've got a good sort of set-up for that.
So- I'm pretty much the opposite of 'connected', but I can post your Etsy link up a few places, or even put a flyer or something up in our area. We have a 'flea market' once a month in the summers here, but it's far more of an artisan's fair (or...I'm not sure what you'd call it, but there's lots of handmade stuff). It's not a bad area for that sorta thing. Anyway, just let me know if I can help at all. :)
If we can get production up and advertising worked out, we should be able to get by pretty well working from home. I'm very excited about the prospect, but it's also quite scary because of the 'what ifs' involved.
Thanks for wanting to help! Pass around the link and the good word where you can. :) Aside from that, we could probably use an accountant, but that's a lot of volunteer work to be asking ;) Some basic start up advice for getting this all on the up-and-up and legal would be good, though. Little things like "Should we make it an LLC or just file things as independent craftspeople?" or "How does one get started filing taxes quarterly and what can I write off, business expense wise?" Trying to figure out the logistics and expenses for actually selling from our own website instead of etsy, but that may take a while before we can afford/arrange all that. I like the look of your/your dad's accounting site so far :)
You've actually been really helpful, thanks! And I will need an accountant, in time, and I always said I'd have you as my accountant. Just need to figure out payment for that XD
The only reason I was worried about doing taxes / income independently is because it's two of us and the whole "who writes off what and gets what income?" question that raises when we aren't married but share all finances. Eh. I'll figure it out.
I technically have a tax ID, but it is for Florida. I wrote to transfer it, but never heard back from them. Might need to try that again -___- They ask that you not file for a new ID if you already have one, but don't really give good methods for changing the address. At least it still lets me order supplies wholesale. I'm guessing that inventory / supplies that are ultimately made into sellable goods aren't tax deductible because that cost should be included in the item's sale price? I was sort of hoping it could be written off, but understand why it wouldn't be.
