I was reading through one of my paper journals from over the summer when I was in Europe. One of my entries reads:

"I feel like the only thing that holds me back in life is my inability to be ..." and then it's illegible.

It makes sense this way though. Seeing as how one of your biggest obstacles is that you observe life rather than participate in it. So maybe all you need is "to be..."
