Oh dear, the problem with finishing pieces of writing is all too familiar :/ Do you reckon you're going to wipe the slate clean with the New Year, or make a resolution to finish some of them? (This is the question I've been pondering!)
I really am disgracefully late in replying to this - sorry!
I want to try and finish some of them, if I can. There are ideas I like, and have planned out - it's just bad discipline that I haven't got myself into the right frame of mind for completion...
there's no way I'd ever get it finished before book 7
Who cares? As long as you start it before book 7 and have the premise in place ...
Pretty much everything is going to be jossed next year (I'm predicting Christmas 2007 for the book, though I'm hoping for later). Or should I not be encouraging you to start another new project? :D
I know that logically I shouldn't care about not getting things finished before 7 and their inevitable jossing- just, somehow, I do! I have a problem writing contemporary/future HP fic as it is. It is daft worrying so much about being 'wrong' when it's bound to happen.
Perhaps you could do the Dev. Office instead, thereby establishing the "Aspleyverse" so that when Book 7 comes out, a crown of disgruntled Pottr fans will complain that JKR has betrayed their vision and they are returnign to you, the true bearer of the blame, to write about what _really_ happened to their heroine ;-)
And you are quite right. The Dev Office is what I must finish first. I know what has to happen in it, so why don't I just write it? Not only would it be rather embarrassing to leave a two-chaptered thing unfinished, my detective idea builds on it.
Did you also mean a crowd of disgruntled Potter fans? Crown is rather nice! Neither, I fear, will ever be mine, but it's fun to dream.

And finishing things, well, that's overrated too.
(But things with Narcissa Malfoy are never overrated,
For you to write such is obviously fated.)
(sorry, it's Christmas, and i'm going from bad to verse)
