Do you ever write anything that is less than perfect? You've captured perfectly the sorrow, the angst, the anger, and the frustration in the hands of an aging Ranger and a scholarly hobbit. It doesn't get much better than this.

Oh I write less than perfect stuff a lot of times! I'm glad you liked this-it was a relatively easy thing to write and I enjoyed doing it very much. Elfstan really just sort of showed up and took over.

I'm glad you like them! Elfstan was a character bonus-I was looking in Encylopedia of Arda to see if there was a name for someone at Undertowers in this time frame and when I saw the name he just walked onstage, bowed and politely introduced himself.

No, not all ways to serve the Kingdoms require swords--this one does well with food and sound advice and decisions--and Hobbit hospitality!
