Hello Dolly-or where to find flesh-colored spray paint

Ah well, NaNo may be a bust this year, unless I hit a 10,000 word lick very soon.  The mess that is my house is impinging upon my muse, as well as the fact that my dolly muse has locked my writing muse in the closet ( Read more... )

The To Do list in reverse ;-) I often find it's amazing how I can get myself to stop procrastinating about Task A by using Task A as displacement activity to allow me to procrastinate about Task B, which I fancy even less.

Will be intrigued to see pictures of the dolls, and I hope they sell! (start of a whole new career??..)

I *love* the icon by the way. Is it an E.W. painting? It has her look about it...

Yes, the idea was that if I could get good at this I could avoid having to go back to work and just stay home and write and make dolls. Unfortunately, it's taken me way too long to learn how and I need to go back to work.

Yes, both of the male icons are E.W.'s work. The Hethlin one is mine and nowhere near as good. I would like to make some more icons, but since my computer crash I don't have the programs to do it. I'm going to have to wipe my hard drive completely here in the near future and put a new OS in, so I'm not highly motivated to install the stuff I need to do it. Not to mention I'm a newby at this LJ stuff and can't do all the clever links and things like Altariel can.

Forgot to mention-the elf is Elrohir and the other gentleman was a random fantasy character that E.W. had done who looked to me to make a really good Faramir, given that he had sort of a Michael Praed thing happening.

Just need to find my camera...It's harder than you might think to take pictures of dolls. I actually had one that I was pleased with (a fairy, not one of these BJDs), that when I took pictures of it was appalled to see how ugly it was. If that happens with this girl, you might never see her.

Hey, glad to see that you are LJing. A great way to avoid your responsibilities.

Now you have to get Hope back here.

Photographing small things is its own art. It takes practice.

Hi Mike!

Yeah, any excuse to avoid those 50,000 words! And I am working on my camera skills, but I usually get Hope to help. She's much better at the lighting and stuff. I told her you asked about her.

Two bits of knowledge.

The more you magnify an image with a camera, the narrower the depth of focus becomes.

The smaller the aperture, the deeper the depth of field becomes.

Depth of field is the distance between the closest part of the picture that is in focus and the furthest part of the picture that is in focus.

So, when you take pix of small things, you are close and have a highly magnified scene. That means you need a small aperture, (large f Number) and lots of light and/or a very slow shutter speed to get a picture where everything is in focus.

And say hi to Hope.

I'm assuming this holds with digital cameras as well. The settings are kind of weird though. I've tried to get good fish pictures, but that is an entirely different problem altogether. One of these days I'll figure it out.
