there is something oddly wonderful about this year in roman numerals (mmix) which makes me think of good food, and music, and the pleasure those things bring-seemingly, hopefully, an auspicious association!

first book of the year: defend and betray, by anne perry. i've been plowing through her victorian-era monk mysteries at a fairly rapid rate;
