I've been playing this game, where the website guesses a character you're thinking of. It's great fun. So far it guessed every character I've been thinking of except or Heath Barkly (Lee Majors' character in The Big Valley). The web genie even guessed this guy below. Try it yourself, it's great for whiling away a few moments of "internet time"!

Hee, such fun, thank you! It gave me a Buffy character before guessing Ezra Standish from Mag7, got Dean Winchester from Supernatural within a few questions, and offered up Gene Hunt when I was thinking of George Cowley - although Cowley was the second guess :D

Great! Did it ask you if any of the characters you were thinking of were "slightly overweight"? That kept cropping up for me! Glad you enjoyed it. *g*

Heh no I didn't get the overweight question - it was the guns and cars questions that seemed to tip the balance towards the right answers :)

I had a go just now, and beat the genie - after four rounds (maybe 56 questions? Can't remember how many!) it still couldn't guess Zazie (Queneau's Zazie dans le métro) :-)

The counter-intuitive thing about the way the algorithm is designed is that it will ask contradictory questions - such as "is your character under 18" - yes - and then some time later, "is your character an adult". I was a bit surprised at that (but then, I know nothing about programming so maybe it's not as easy as I would imagine to eliminate contradictions).

Fun, anyway - thank you for the link!

ETA ha! I won again! (Manolito Gafotas). I had better stop this, I can see how it could get to be addictive :-))))

Oh, yes, it is so addictive! I've beaten it a few times but to be honest, I enjoy it more when it gets something really obscure. Have you checked out the game report? That's quite interesting!

How interesting..and quite fun! I tried for Bodie but took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up with Sherlock Holmes, first time around. Spot on the second time though. :D

Your comment made me smile - it sounds like the punchline of a joke, *g* Glad you enjoyed the game - I'm a bit addicted to it, to be truthful!

That's not a bad thing, though, right? *g* Glad you are enjoying it!

Oooh, this looks like the sort of thing a friend had to write for the end of a university module. Intelligent machines, was it? She did one that asked you what you liked in a pub (live music, silence, jukebox, craft beer, open past 11pm - this is some time ago!) and then proposed where you should go that night. Ah, happy memories!

I beat it with Craven from Edge of Darkness (although he's actually in the database), but it guessed I meant Doyle fairly rapidly on the next go, and took very little time to cut Jenna from Blakes 7 out of the possibilities. Great fun, thanks!

Glad you are enjoying it. I am finding it quite addictive. I didn't find Harvey Lacey (of Cagney and Lacey) for me but he was listed in the possibilities. I don't know anything about programming either but I do enjoy looking at the game report. :)
