there is no happiness like mine ; emily/alison ; g

Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.
-- The Wise Man’s Fear, Patrick Rothfuss

there's a space of skin on alison's abdomen, just above the blue plaid of her field hockey skirt.

emily can see it when her jersey rides up, as she stretches out on the grass.

she'd love to kiss that space of skin, the little curve of alison's hip.

*

don't i look hot? alison asks, turns and looks at her expectantly.

emily can't speak. she wants to, but she can't. she shouldn't.

they both know what the answer is. but emily can't say a thing like that. not ever.

especially not in front of all their friends.

yeah, she says. licks her, lips looks away. yeah, i guess.

*

alison, drunk, loops her arms around emily's neck, leans heavily against her.

i know you want to kiss me, she says, and her mouth is right there, suddenly ( ... )

Oh my gosh, this is wonderful! I love how well you captured Emily's pining for Alison in such gorgeous little moments, the whole style of language is great. My heart twisted at the bit about her seeing Alison for the first time, and of course the last line, god, but I also really like how you described even just the flash of Ali's skin under her lacrosse jersey. And Ali taunting her about it when drunk reads so true as well, god, and Emily stays with her anyway. Thanks so much for such a lovely fill, I was so excited when I saw someone wrote this! Oh and also I really liked the quote you used at the top, set the tone perfectly.

Love the way you've captured these two. The first section as well as the part where she first sees Alison are wonderful bits of imagery, and I love how you've kept them true to character. Very nicely done.
