The next time your character awakens, they may find a collar closed around their throats, and a cord only they can see connecting to it and going elsewhere in the house. Even if the character does not sleep, there will be a moment where it is almost as if they blacked out--and then, a collar.
Just what do these collars do? Why, they connect two characters in the house. As long as the collars are connected, the characters can feel each others' life energy, mood, and current health as easily as they could feel their own. This is because these energies are connected: if one dies, the other does, too.
Better make sure your partner doesn't die on you.
