This past weekend I was hanging out with my sister who informed me she and her gang had renamed the holiday season "Cra-han-za." I mentioned "Fourth Quarter Retail Season" was easier to say. I have this rant of my own forming about how the holidays' raison d'être and anything you see at the mall are purely coincidental. Boiled down: If you wish to celebrate some historical event of religious significance, do so and by all means enjoy it. But please please please don't link it to any shopping insanity caused as much by winter blahs and profit/loss statements as any Three Wise Men homage.

Happy Fourth Quarter Retail Season! May your gifts be in stock and on sale.

I like that take... dolmangar December 17 2003, 06:06:48 UTC
It's funny around here because it keeps snowing only on the weekends, which means people aren't going out to shop on the "big" shopping days.

H4thQRS cards are in the works I'm sure. You could make a killing.

Oooh i like give gifts randomly gifts! I think that would be a good. plan.

I agree the gift buying stress is not fun. Your shopping will happen eventually... I went to Dulles Town center rather than Fair Oaks one weekend - it was much less crowded. Of COurse Home Depot had no snow shovels. :P

A Party theme... masquerade? Fondue? Gambling?

Fondue....ummmm, my friends...hot oil...let the me think about that...ummm half naked chics with chocolate....couple that with masquerade and we have potential.

Anyway, gambling night would be very cool, however that takes a lot of setup, and people would have to deal with learning the rules of the games etc... Good idea tho, I'll have to think on that one.

Keep the ideas comin' I may just pull something cool off.

well, if it makes you feel any better, i'm HAVING a no-presents party w/my friends. you know, the one i invited you to. the evening of the 29th. i can't absolutely guarantee that no one will have any presents, but since a) it's after christmas, so most of that stuff should have happened already, and b) I'M certainly not going to have any, b/c dropping isn't the problem--i have no $ and can hardly pull together enough things to wrap for the fam! so come over. grinch all you like. have pizza. bring beer? i promise not to hand or ask for anything w/bows on it. *hug*

And I'm going to try and make it. Don't yet know if I'll be able to, probably make that decision that day, depending on how tired out I am.

oh, pppppppppplease don't be tired! we'd miss you terribly! you must come and show us your nipples or it won't be a party! but you won't have to do any work. you can lie about on the floor. we'll bring you snacks and be entertaining. or maybe we'll put the snacks on your nipples and... oh, wait. no, we're not at the "house of love" anymore. it's probably not going to be QUITE that kind of party. :)
