:) i know nothing about cable options local to d.c., and i haven't seen your living room since your parents lived in it, but i CAN say from experience (experience w/you, anyway) that ALL excuses for power tools are very good ideas. :)
I did the cable modem thing up hereL: RCN had a package deal that was $85 for digital phone, digital cable, and internet, and comcast had something like. If you're in an area with competition, you should be able to find similar.
I'm now in a neighborhood with no competition, and Comcast charges $50 for cable and $50 for internet, _with_ the 15% package discount. hmph.
I like to keep a land line around for outgoing calls, and in case the power goes out for a long period of time or I want to lie in bed talking into the wee hours and have the cell phone on the charger for the night, but this cell needs to be charged every day or two anyway
I have no real need of a home phone. My cell runs for days at time without needing a charge, and on top of that I don't generally spend hours on the phone. I don't think that there is any other copetition around my area, but even at $100 /mo I'm still saving at least $50 / mo over what I pay now.
