Why an average performance can still be awesome

Today was the kickoff Pedestrian Sunday, and the amalgamation of Shades of Araby, Tribe Maya Fire, and Tribe WaiWaiZii/Vayastara performed in the aptly-chosen Dancing Days location in Kensington Market. The rain was good enough to hold off, and the familiar vinyl stage made an appearance, though having to dance in potholes and on an angle meant ( Read more... )

Oh how very true this is! I remember dancing with you in the UK at your first ATS performance and you saying how self-concious you used to be about body image. You rocked it with confidence that day and baby look at you now!..lol.changing other people's lives. So proud of you my ATS sister! -;o)-

Not so pedestrian... ext_631819 May 30 2011, 17:52:29 UTC
Thanks, Sarah Jane for the mini Reader's Digest response to your post...it's delightful when others view our offerings as so much more than we view them. Lililili-yip!

It's not the first time I've heard something like this, either. Body image is such a big thing in our society, and it's particularly difficult if you're an overweight woman. I'm in the best shape I've been in a long time, and I still struggle with it daily. I like to think that getting up and rocking all 200 lbs of me might provide a positive counter-image to the ones people are being bombarded with every day. It's part of why I love performance so much.

it's funny how we forget we are embassadors of more than just the ATS dance format, it is the whole attitude. I dance ATS because I love the group feeling and power (and yes, the moves) and I'm glad that it speaks to other people as well. So glad you had contact with her!!
