Computers, Hard Drives, and Power Cords, oh my

So I'm getting desperate. I have no money to take it to a repair shop but I really miss the pics and programs on my desktop computer and could probably use some of those documents, too! Does anyone know anything about HP Desktop computers? Or do you know someone who does? I'll leave this entry public in case they have an LJ and can help

u said its an hp?...well mine used to do that....I would take the cord out of the back of the pc....unplug all the little doohickeys that were conected....push the little red switch down for a second..then back up....then hook everything back up and it would work...don't know if it'll work for u or not tho =o)

Yeah it's HP. And I'm so stupid when it comes to computers you'll have to really break this down for me lol. I'm getting on yahoo...

Okay I don't know if I hit the same red switch (the slider thing just underneath the power cord in the back?) but I tried that and it didn't work :(

that's the right switch...did u unhook EVERYTHING from the back of the pc?
