The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense is, in some universes, still sort of kind of quasi a little bit secret. This means that they like very much to keep track of their agents and the people connected with them, especially when they've just come bounding in from hell dimensions carrying god knows what diseases or terrible demon ( Read more... )

At some point later in the day, Henry leaves Eileen a short note and gets out of bed. He walks down the hall, to where the more critical patients were being kept. He's mostly being kept for observation- after getting his shoulders fixed up and some fluids in him, he really doesn't have a lot to worry about.

When he reaches the door for Liz and Henry, he's worried to see that Henry's not there. Maybe they did put them in separate rooms? But he's so glad to see her there, at least. He walks in and sits in the chair next to her bed, planning on staying there for awhile. He's sure that there's plenty of nurses in and out, but until they bring Henry back or someone else comes in, he's going to be there. He doesn't want to risk her waking up alone.

At some point later, he sneaks back into the room while the nurses aren't looking. Or at least, that's what they're letting him think. He wheels himself over to her bed, takes her hand, and kisses her forehead. He'll wait till she's awake.

Well, naturally she's awake immediately, already stirring as soon as he's in the room.

"Mmm. Where were you?"

Not that that's obsessively inquisitive at all.

"More x-rays...I think. I just go where they're telling me." He leans down and kisses her, slowly and quietly. He combs his hand through some of her hair, thoroughly enjoying the fact that he's able to touch her again. "How're you feeling? You can go back to sleep if you want...I'll stay here."

When he pulls away to speak Liz reels him in again; it was...was it yesterday? The day before? Not so long ago she thought this would never happen again. Right now she's so exhausted and sore she can't think about she would, frankly, like to be doing, but she wants as much touch as she can get.

"I'm all right. Could you maybe crank the bed up? I'm supposed to be elevated. You know, for the ribs. Just--just stay here? Talk to me?"

Lobster Johnson's probably not on any guest lists -- certainly not anyplace run by Dr. Manning -- but when you're a ghost who, albeit still with more effort than you're used to, can shift in and out of tangible presence, it's not like you usually pay attention to such things.

What you do pay attention to, when you've already varied from your usual mission of seeking out evil-doers in your own world in order to help retrieve someone from a dimension of horror, is paying at least one visit during that person's convalescence, to see how they're doing. It's questionable whether anyone else will notice him there, but if they do... well, he supposes he'll have to make do, despite not really being any good at small talk.
