a/n: I wrote this a couple weeks ago, and if I had a better memory I would cite a great line from Misery regarding letting something sit too long and all the cracks and tricks in the story beginning to show, but my memory is shit so I can't. Basically, I liked this at first and now i hate it sfm I'm not so sure. But in any case. For a claim at 1sentence.

#1; Motion
After a while, seeing that look on Kurt’s face - that look of loathing, that whispers I want to dance on your grave someday - stops being so satisfying, and even though Sebastian’s not about to stop putting it on that pretty, pale countenance, he still laments the lack of fulfillment it gives him.

#2; Cool
Nothing ever seems to bother him - even when his actions are (frankly) fueled by some kind of misplaced passion, Sebastian Smythe always looks smug and unruffled, like he has all the solutions for any problems that might arise, and he already knows how things are going to end.

#3; Young
Kurt had been counting on Sebastian being a sophomore - the supply of jokes questioning his legality may have been borrowed from Santana’s private arsenal of Schuester-remarks, but they were still amusing, in the cutting kind of way that Kurt needed them to be.

#4; Last
He ticks them off on his fingers because he can’t quite believe it, but no matter how many times he runs through the scenarios (and he does at least a dozen times, not that that was any burden), it always seems like Thad was onto something when he suggested that there was a pattern in Sebastian’s most recent conquests - a pattern involving blue eyes and chestnut-brown hair.

#5; Wrong
“I don’t -” Sebastian pauses; slicks his annoyingly dry lips; narrows his eyes at the irksome male in front of him, “It’s very…rare, for me to make a mistake as obvious as this one, but - Blaine’s not exactly the type I thought he was; not exactly my type.”

#6; Gentle
Sebastian probably deserves to be slapped - even if Blaine was just as willing a party, it doesn’t change the fact that Sebastian was the one who pursued him without end; Sebastian was the one who didn’t care that Blaine had a boyfriend he was perfectly content with; Sebastian was the one who made the ultimately-accepted proposition - but Kurt doesn’t seem to feel the same; his fingertips barely graze Sebastian’s shoulder when he gives that slow nod, and murmurs, “It’s not your fault.”

#7; One
There’s no doubt about it that Sebastian is not a monogamous sort of person - Kurt assures Rachel that he’s very much aware of that when she informs him about her extensive background checks - but a small part of Kurt (the part he used to be so happy to give free reign, but now has to be reminded to make itself apparent) makes him bite his lip, and think that Maybe, he’ll be the one that’s different.

#8; Thousand
Kurt was sure - so sure - that Sebastian was the type of rich, entitled son-of-a that threw money around like it doesn’t even matter, and he tells Sebastian that after their first date - Sebastian’s response is to don that arrogant smirk of his and ask, “Are you really going to complain about that?”

#9; King
There aren’t many things that get Sebastian really riled up - because he’s better than caring about most of the stupid little matters that are so ridiculously important in high school, even at Dalton - but the ghost stories of Kurt Hummel’s Junior Prom are spoken with too much sorrow to be just stories, and that’s not a stupid little matter by any stretch of the imagination.

#10; Learn
“Jesus shit, Kurt, would you just -” Kurt’s expression remains unchanged, forebodingly blank, and the legs of Sebastian’s chair screech across the tiled floor as he leans back and tries to convey his annoyance through noises, instead of through venomous words, “I’m at least trying, aren’t I?”

#11; Blur
Emotional control has never been Kurt’s strong suit, but maybe his immediate assumption that Sebastian was entirely serious and not even slightly kidding about thinking that Sam was a fine piece of ass was a little too hasty; a touch too unnecessary.

#12; Wait
Sebastian’s not used to guys like Kurt - guys who don’t just want to fuck, and be done with it - and it’s the withdraw symptoms for the boys that do that make his hands tremble as he tries to dial Kurt’s number for a completely-PG (PG-13, if he can swing it) chat.

#13; Change
He smiles at Kurt, with brief tenderness, like he’s never known someone like Kurt Hummel, and it’s in that moment that Kurt admits to himself that he was wrong, because Sebastian Smythe shouldn’t look at anyone like that, and the fact that that expression is for Kurt is discomforting beyond words.

#14; Command
“I think we should break up,” Kurt says, and even though he’d tried to make it sound benevolent and open-minded (Sam had coached him, words tinged kinder than Kurt knew he would ever be able to make his), when he says it out loud, Kurt can’t hear any room for Sebastian to argue his point in the discussion.

#15; Hold
The fact that there are even books written about how to win someone back after they have a temporary lapse of insanity and break up with the best thing that ever happened to them is absurd, but what’s more absurd is that Sebastian isn’t the only person in the area that actually wants them.

#16; Need
“It was a matter of security,” Kurt tells Blaine, with considering eyes, “I need someone that will remain faithful,” Blaine winces, and but Kurt feels little sympathy, “and Sebastian’s - history - put things into objectionable lights,” he concludes with feigned dismissal - and even Blaine looks unconvinced.

#17; Vision
I should have slapped him, is all that Kurt can think as he watches the familiar silhouette of an entirely-too-despicable brunette grinding against any and all males on Scandals’ dance floor - and Kurt is just about to go up there and slap him, too, when a hand taps him on the shoulder, and he turns around to realize that the hand belongs to someone who is decidedly not grinding against any and all males on Scandals’ dance floor.

#18; Attention
Sebastian grins, because he doesn’t really care about what Kurt Hummel wants to do - not because the book said to be more approachable, and his grin is a thousand times more attractive and alluring than his smile - and nods in the direction of the writhing mass of Scandals patrons who are either dryhumping or dancing, before noting appreciatively, “Hummel - I didn’t know you had a type.”

#19; Soul
Kurt doesn’t remember what it was that Sebastian had said to upset him so much - he doubts that Sebastian would remember, either, because really, if (if) Kurt was ever deemed “worthy” of Sebastian’s introspection before, he knows he isn’t now - but he remembers that it had been insensitive (brutally so), and should logically have rendered Sebastian unworthy of Kurt’s introspection, too.

#20; Picture
It’s not like Sebastian keeps tabs on Kurt or anything - he just happens to notice when Kurt changes his Facebook profile picture to one of himself, and some guy that looks to be about ten feet tall and Definitely Kurt’s Type.

#21; Fool
“I think it would be fair to say that I…made a mistake,” he says, and Sebastian can tell that Kurt’s choosing his words carefully - like he’s trying to make it desperately apparent that he’s deliberately mirroring That One Conversation (which feels like it was twenty years ago, because Sebastian still treasures the memory like a faded postcard that he should probably throw out, but doesn’t have the heart to).

#22; Mad
He expects the worst; he expects worse than the worst, because it’s not every day that someone so used to one way of life shows a subtle change towards the direction of humanity, just for the sake of one person, and it’s definitely not every day that that one person ends up throwing it back in his face with half-formed assumptions and accusations - but Sebastian’s not really an everyday boy, so Kurt lets himself hope for the best.

#23; Child
“That’s so cute,” Sebastian coos, bitter and patronizing, and Kurt can tell that he only wants to get a rise out of Kurt - he only wants to make him angry, so that Kurt will be morally obligated to take all the blame when things don’t work out between them.

#24; Now
Kurt kisses him, because he’s never known any other way to shut Sebastian up.

#25; Shadow
Sebastian really doesn’t think that this is going to end well, and not just because this is still just high school, and nothing ever lasts beyond high school - but he still whispers, “I knew you wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer,” all the same, because Sebastian really does think that it’ll all be worth it anyway.

#26; Goodbye
“You don’t have faith in us,” Kurt murmurs - not sadly, just thoughtfully - as it occurs to him that Sebastian might actually be the practical one in their relationship.

#27; Hide
It’s when they forget to turn the lights out, and neither of them wants to disentangle to shut them off, that Sebastian feels like he’s going to be the one that falls in love first, because Kurt can be as embarrassed by his body as he wants to - but the fact (and it is fact) of the matter will still be that it’s pretty fucking stupid to be, since he’s really damn beautiful.

#28; Fortune
After Kurt complains about the smell of Chinese food seeping into his clothes for eleven ceaseless minutes, Sebastian decides that the only solution is to hide Kurt’s (and Sebastian’s, while they’re at it, because really) precious clothes in a safe, unreachable place - he hardly thinks that it’s fair for Kurt to get so annoyed about it; he’s sure that the poor delivery boy has seen plenty worse.

#29; Safe
He falls asleep on Kurt’s chest, and he snores - but it’s kind of endearing, since Kurt’s not entirely certain that he’ll ever see Sebastian so unguarded again.

#30; Ghost
There’s always that twinge of suspicion in Sebastian’s voice when Kurt talks about Glee Club - like he thinks everyone in the New Directions is a rival, not to be trusted further than he (or she, and honestly, that’s just silly) can be thrown.

#31; Book
Sebastian knew he shouldn’t have left that letter lying around, and when Kurt finds it (and laughs; Sebastian has half a mind to make him leave, borrowed boxer shorts and too-tight wifebeater and all), it’s further proof that Sebastian always has the best judgment - except for when it comes to that blue moon when he borrows books from the library and then manages to forget.

#32; Eye
Sebastian has his mother’s eyes, and Kurt really hadn’t meant to trigger any unpleasant reactions with that comment - the fact that he did is upsetting, in a selfish way, because in this relationship, Kurt is the one that doesn’t know enough about Sebastian.

#33; Never
His name is Jacques, and Kurt wants to throttle him a little more with every French-garbled word he spews - things that generally give the gist of, You always said you’d never be that guy - what happened, Sebby, and is it permanent?

#34; Sing
“Sing for me,” Sebastian says, and Kurt can tell from the way that he stares that Sebastian meant for it to be much more imposing than it really is - but Kurt agrees to it anyway, and pretends that Sebastian isn’t adorable when he’s sick and pouting.

#35; Sudden
Twenty-five minutes into the movie, when the interesting stuff is just starting, and Sebastian is struck by the thought that makes him sit up (Kurt glares at him for dislodging his shoulder from under Kurt’s head), and blurt, “We should break up.”

#36; Stop
Kurt blinks at him tiredly, like he thinks it’s just Sebastian being a dick and trying to tease him, and yes, Sebastian has done that sort of thing once or twice before - but Kurt should know that this time, it’s serious.

#37; Time
Slowly, it dawns on Kurt that Sebastian isn’t just trying to be a douchebag again, and he half-worries that it’ll always be either this, or something a thousand times worse.

#38; Wash
The words form on his lips before Sebastian hears them - or maybe they’ve just come far enough for Sebastian to know what Kurt is going to say, even before Kurt does - and his gaze is shrewd, like Kurt thinks that just saying it will make things all better.

#39; Torn
“You’re awful, do you know that?” Kurt asks - though maybe screams is a better word, or shrieks - and Sebastian’s a little afraid that Kurt’s going to start beating down on him with two fists of righteous indignation, but instead Kurt just glowers, like it’s a dare that he’s waiting for Sebastian to accept, even when they both know he won’t.

#40; History
Eventually, Kurt sighs, and buries his face in his hands, while Sebastian just stares at him and silently reminds the little thing he thinks might be his conscience that Sebastian Smythe is never wrong, so it’s better to just let Kurt go free.

#41; Power
His voice is muffled by his palms, but Kurt thinks that he’s making himself clear enough to be understood as he says - three times, each increasing in intensity - “Absolutely not,” until he’s satisfied that Sebastian has gotten the point.

#42; Bother
Maybe it should intimidate Sebastian more that Kurt is the one calling the shots, but he decides when they nestle back into place against one another on the sofa that no, it intimidates him just the right amount.

#43; God
Religion mostly annoys Kurt, so Sebastian keeps the humorous aspect of the way that Kurt’s coital profanities are laced with cries to a mononymous deity to himself.

#44; Wall
No matter how much Kurt tries to prod it out of him, Sebastian never wants to talk about the woman whose photograph scowls down at passersby in the hallway leading to Sebastian’s bedroom, and after a while, Kurt paints himself a picture and stops asking.

#45; Naked
It’s on a Tuesday - their last Tuesday, because on the coming Friday Kurt will whisk himself away to New York and Sebastian will be left behind like he never has been before - that Sebastian tells him all about his mother, with as little melodramatics that he can manage to tell it with.

#46; Drive
Sebastian tells the Irish kid that it’s his own fault for believing Sebastian - whom he (and the rest of the New Directions, for that matter) should definitely not be trusting, even if he did transfer legitimately and even if he did tell them convincingly enough that he joined their sad excuse for a neglected club because Kurt asked - when he complains about Sebastian’s slight misinformation regarding the nature of their “road trip.”

#47; Harm
He doesn’t say it, but Kurt finds out from everyone else at McKinley (everyone else, referring to Tina, Artie, Sam, Sugar, and Rory, at least) that it’s rough on Sebastian, and that charm and personal victories in the form of defiance work as poorly as Kurt had tried to warn him that they would on the student body of William McKinley High School.

#48; Precious
“Take care of yourself,” Kurt takes to saying in place of goodbye, and it sounds cold and impersonal, until the added, “I love you,” that always follows.

#49; Hunger
“It’s the biggest pain in the ass in the world,” Sebastian groans, not entirely exaggerating, “And the second you get back here, I’m going to make it yours,” he adds, and to credit the source of Sebastian’s constant state of sexual frustration, Kurt doesn’t snicker too obviously.

#50; Believe
When Sebastian graduates, just a year after Kurt, he follows the gorgeous fucker to New York, like a helpless puppy trails a cute little rosy-cheeked boy in nostalgic wall-hangings - and he doesn’t even notice that he’s completely pathetic until Rachel Berry (who Sebastian finally decides does not have to be one of the banes of his existence) remarks that, “You really do love Kurt, don’t you?”
