Goals for the end of the year:
  1. 15 Chinups without rest
  2. 100 pushups without rest
  3. Be able to touch the basketball rim

squat presses. bar in front of your chin, squat as normal, and explode up, pushing bar up over your head as you rise. no jumping, but getting up on your toes is optional...

A lot of it also depends on how you jump. If you watch a cat jump, they launch their body up before finally pushing off their feet. When you go to jump for the rim, once you reach the bottom of your coiling, start reaching for the rim with your upper body without engaging your legs. You're still "pushing" off the ground, but you haven't used the potential energy in your legs. This extra push gets your body moving and starts and upward momentum. When you've just about reached as high as you can, then fire with the legs. Now all that power adds to the upper body's momentum, rather than trying to start the whole body by itself. It will feel like you are getting a sudden boost.

I used to be good at it, back in my youth.... It takes a while to feel out, but it can add quite a bit of distance.

And do crazy amounts of plyometrics like you said.
