Calling my LJ braintrust

Ok people. I know I have friends on here who like melee. What are your favorite melee games and scenarios? I'm running melee at an event where there isn't any structure just games and exercises. So what would you look forward to if you were going out for a day of melee?

I like FPS style "Capture the Flag" like we've seen at DtG a few times.

I also like long res battles. I like having to griiiiiiinnd out a win versus doing it in 30 seconds.

I liked 'Kill the Baron' like we did at WoW. Good endurance training as well as tactical exercise.

as an exercise I think it would be kind of neat to run small unit skirmishes where first everybody squares off with individually and then as units.

So Team A and Team B A1 fights B1, A2 - B2, A3 - B3. Then they fight as teams. Individual win is worth 1 point, team win is worth 3 points. Most points wins, ties are ties. The only way to assure no tie is to fight as a team.

I don't think I've ever seen it done and there may be a reason for that, but it seems like it would be a way to enforce the value of a unit over a lone gun and also let everybody have their own fun, melee and one on one.

Love it. I may tweak the scoring a little, but it sounds great.

sweet. I'm just full of good ideas these days. :P
It would also be good to encourage off field post mortems between the teams. "We did this, you did that. This worked, that didn't." and then maybe offer another prize for the best teaching team.

My kingdom is all about big unit tactics, whereas I love small unit (3-5 people.) I like moving in small units during a big battle. I would love to start working on skirmishing tactics to break up incoming large units before they hit my side's line. This might help in the Pennsic woods battles, but I think it would be too obvious in the open fields.

I might have to move to Atlantia if I want to be part of something like this...

Sorry, I didn't actually answer your question. If you combined the small unit grand melee with various objectives (go somewhere, grab something, kill a certain person, etc) you could a wild time where people have to constantly think and move. Having to choose between fighting, running, maneuvering, etc, makes melee fun for me.

Perhaps some sort of multiple team gathering game where you can win by grabbing the items or merely denying them to everyone else?
