Those are wonderful Jesus shoes! Next thing you know, she'll be converting the masses.
Have you seen Roman military sandals? They have lots of straps over the feet which lace up. Kind of like if each eyelet on a pair of modern tennis shoes were on its own strap. Another set or two of loops for the lace to go through closer to the ball of the foot might keep it on her foot better.
One of the designs I suggested to her did exactly that - the little loops, like the ones shown here under her ankle, continued up the side of the foot to enable the lacing over the top of it. I thought it was the best idea, but she vetoed it in favor of the design you see here. That's what we get for letting a seven-year-old make the decisions... ;-)
You also need to make the sole longer. It looks like her toes are at the edge, or hanging over, which is one of the things that make children trip in sandals. This is one of the things to look for when getting a proper fot for children's shoes (as told to me by a professional at an expensive kids shoe store.)
If you put on a pair of your own sandals that fit and look down, you should see what I am talking about.
I see what you're saying. I actually am not sure what happened there. When I was putting them together, the sole lining and sole just looked SO much bigger than her feet that it looked like she was wearing flippers! So I trimmed off a little all the way around and they came out too small!
