Ten facts About Anakin Skywalker in the Time Between Meeting Qui-Gon Jinn and Traveling to Naboo
Girl!Obi-Wan Au: Facts About Anakin
1. Padme is the most beautiful girl in the entire galaxy, and Anakin knows he will always remember the moment he saw her angelic face appear in Watto’s shop. He knew her, too- the moment he saw her he knew they would be married someday. That she needed his help. That she would never hurt him on purpose.
2. But Obi-Wan is the most wizard girl he’s ever met, and the moment he felt that slim hand he knew that it was greasy from tinkering with a broken hyperdrive and calloused from holding a lightsaber and shaking his own because the person she respected most in the world had introduced them.
3. The people he knows things about have always ended up being important to Anakin.
4. …Calling Obi-Wan the most wizard girl he’s ever met, even in his head, makes Anakin feel a little bit guilty, actually. Because he knows that while both Padme and Obi-Wan are strong and brave and smart, Padme is also sweet and gentle and generous and overall just nicer to him than Obi-Wan is. And Padme is the one he’s going to marry someday. So what kind of person is he if says some other girl is cooler than her? Anakin decides to think on the problem.
5. Anakin pays a lot more attention to the nature of Obi-Wan’s relationship with Qui-Gon and how she gets treated by the Council. Young boys have almost as little power as women, in some parts of Tatooine, and while he is very grateful not to be a slave anymore- slaves have no power at all- some part of him wants to know what he is getting into. He keeps his senses open to Obi-Wan to find out who she flinches from, who she shares a secret glance with, who she is expected to grant with small touches. (Obi-Wan only flinches once. All of her glances are secret. She doesn’t touch anyone, which is comforting until he gets to know her better. Then it’s just sad.)
6. It takes him a moment to figure out that flinch, because Anakin himself had felt so relieved at the news.
7. Anakin makes a mental note that Qui-Gon, while not cruel, can sometimes be indifferent, and possibly has a habit of springing surprises on people. (He has a nightmare where Obi-Wan is old and white haired, living alone in the Jundland Wastes without anyone to look after her. She smiles sadly at his ghost as the townsfolk call her a witch and the children throw rocks at her speeder until it breaks.)
8. The next morning Anakin badgers Master Qui-Gon with questions about Obi-Wan’s upcoming Trials for half an hour until he feels better.
9. Anakin doesn’t really believe Qui-Gon when he says Obi-Wan is one of the most gifted duelists in the Order, but he is curious enough to sneak into the sparring rooms to watch her practice.
10. …Obi-Wan is the most wizard girl in the entire universe. (Also, she catches him sneaking.)
