Chapter Seven. The One With the Two Dinners.
He really needed to shut up. All he had to do was close him mouth. Boa was so tempted to kiss him - just so he would shut up. However, she couldn’t imagine placing her lips anywhere near his. That would just barely be worse.
It would be one thing if stopped his talking as he took bite after bite of his orange chicken. But he didn’t. He just continued to shove the stuff down his throat as his words were shoved down Boa’s. She couldn’t even bring herself to eat her own food.
When they - well, he - were done eating, he reached across the table and grabbed Boa’s hand. “Boa,” he spoke, his voice dried out from all his talking, “I had a great time tonight with you. And I would like to see you again. Not just because you’re famous, but because of the person you are inside.”
Boa rolled her eyes. She couldn’t handle this. She removed her hand from his. She placed her elbows on the table and then cradled her head with her hands. “And who am I on the inside?” she asked him. This was the first time she had been able to say anything the whole night.
The man looked stunned. “Um, well,” he said, his mouth open wider than a normal person’s ever was while talking,
“Maybe,” she said, standing up. She pushed her chair in and walked over to him. She lowered her face so that just one step closer and she would be kissing him. “You should just shut that stupid mouth of yours.” Using her index finger, she closed his open mouth.
As she left, she called after, “Or at least say something interesting.”
Boa left the restaurant with a smile. That was honestly the last time that she would let her manager hook her up with anyone ever again. She didn’t get why her manager insisted on it again and again. She had no trouble getting men on her own and the ones that her manager got always sucked. It wasn’t her fault that none of them were Jae Joong.
Boa still hadn’t left Japan. She was really getting sick of not having anyone to speak in Korean to. She wanted to go back home. She wanted to sleep in her own bed. She wanted to see her friends.
As Boa made her way back to her hotel, it began to rain. It wasn’t a light rain either. Out of nowhere, it was pouring, more raining coming down in a few minutes that Boa had seen in a long time.
And she was stuck in the middle of it.
Without an umbrella.
And on top of that - Boa realized as she decided to call someone - that she had left her purse back at the restaurant. She whirled around and ran back towards the restaurant. She ran straight past the hostess and towards her chair.
Instead of finding her purse resting nicely in her chair, there was a body. “Um,” she said as she approached the person now in her seat, “was there a bag here before?”
Boa was standing behind her chair, too afraid to look the person in face. She was embarrassed that she had forgotten something as simple as her purse.
Instead of answering her question, the person stood up and exclaimed, “Boa!” and gave her a hug.
Although the voice sounded very familiar, she couldn’t seem to realize who it was right way. It would be nice if they let her go and let her good a good look at the person.
The person let her go and just smiled.
Boa felt like a complete idiot for not knowing who it was. Only Yun Ho would just hug her like that - out of absolutely nowhere.
“What are you doing here?” she asked, hugging him once again.
“Waiting for Jae Joong. Something epic happened to him the other day and he won’t tell me what. And I am determined to find out.” He laughed. “You should join us.”
“Well,” Boa said, not sure how to answer. It would be kind of weird for her to have yet another meal there. Then again, this time she would probably actually be able to eat some of it. Plus, really, Jae Joong was reason enough to stay. “I suppose I could. But don’t think he’d be less willing to tell you if I’m here?”
Yun Ho just laughed. “No way. I bet he’ll tell you anything.”
Boa smiled, a small blush rising to her cheeks. There were a few things that she would love from him to tell her....
Boa sat down next to Yun Ho, completely forgetting the purse that she had actually returned to the restaurant for. They waited for about ten minutes for Jae Joong to come, during which Boa ranted about her date - if you could honestly call it that.
Then Jae Joong arrived. He was smiling. Although he looked beyond amazing when he did so, smiling was a rare thing for Kim Jae Joong.
“Hey, Boa,” he said, sitting down, next to her and across from Yun Ho, “I didn’t know you would be here.”
Before Boa could explain, Yun Ho wrapped his arm around her said, “I ran into her and told her to join us. Hope you don’t mind.”
“Of course not,” Jae Joong said with a small laugh. “And now what to order…” he mumbled to himself as he opened up the menu.
The waiter came around and got their drink orders. Boa just wanted water - she had done enough drinking during her last “meal”. He returned with their drinks and took their orders. Boa was just happy that neither Jae Joong nor Yun Ho ordered orange chicken.
“So,” Yun Ho said, staring down Jae Joong, “what happened?”
Boa was surprised at how straightforward Yun Ho was. If she was Jae Joong, she would tell Yun Ho simply because he was so straightforward.
“Nothing,” however, was Jae Joong’s response.
“No,” Yun Ho corrected, “something is going on and you should just tell me.”
“How do you know that anything is going on?” he questioned, his eyes shifting around. He wanted his food so that he could leave. He wasn’t how he had imagined his dinner.
“You’re never this happy,” Yun Ho concluded.
“Am I not allowed to be happy just because?”
“Well, sure, you’re allowed, you just never are.”
Despite his frustration, Jae Joong still smiled - he knew Yun Ho was right. He wasn’t sure why wasn’t telling anyone besides Chang Min about him and Na Ra. He really just didn’t want anyone making a big deal out of it. Even though, well, it was.
“C’mon,” Boa pleaded, speaking for the first time to Jae Joong the whole night, “just tell us.”
Jae Joong smiled. He was being stupid, not telling them. He should want to shout his love - or whatever he was feeling - from rooftops.
“Okay,” he said. He leaned in closer to the two, as if it was some top secret mission that no one else could know about or else they’d have to die. “You guys remember Na Ra?” The two nodded their heads. “Well, we’re together.”
“I KNEW IT WAS A GIRL!” Yun Ho exclaimed, so loud that everyone in the restaurant turned to look at them. “That’s so great,” he told his friend, “absolutely amazing.”
“Yeah, it is,” Boa agreed, even though - in all actuality - she, well, didn’t agree.
