Camera....... and the screen went black :-(

My lovely, digital camera seems to be broken. It was working perfectly fine and then, a couple of days ago, I turned it on and the display screen was completely black apart from a few symbols telling me what mode the camera is in etc. I tried to take a picture, which it did but the picture is simply black too. I fear it is no more, deceased, popped its clogs, shuffled off this mortal coil, it is, a dead camera! I doubt it can be fixed but....does the lens open? It would be cheaper to replace it as 5 million pixcels is not a lot these days, the standard is 7 to 10 million (although you only need 5 for up to A4 pictures). I got one 2 years ago from ebay for £50 because I liked yours so much. If you are going to replace it, check out ebay for a more up to date version of the same. The cost of any professional to even open it up is going to be £30 just to say, "Its gone to a better place".

If the lens cap doesn't open, it may be relatively simple to fix, that said, I don't know of anyone who would, its mighty small and fiddly and there are bound to be springs to leap across the room the minute you touch it with a knife/screwdriver!!!
