A 500 gig external hard drive for under $150.... all I have to do is plug it in (Firewire! Yippee!), and I'm good to go. One of my current projects is creating a mirror of the entire Gutenberg project, for archival purposes. I hear it will be ~150 gigs. You're mirroring the Gutenberg project? Wow! I'm glad it's backed up somewhere.

My first and second computer didn't have hard drives. Now I have a computer with 3 multi-gig hards and 2 video cards.

The Project actually encourages people to go ahead and make a mirror of the site.

I use Filezilla to access the FTP site, and with our fast connection, it makes it easier.

Makes sense, the more copies that are out there, the less likely the information is to be lost.

On a completely different subject. A while ago, I sent you a really huge file. What was the site I used to send it to you? Was is YouSendIt?

Heh. The first computer that I owned was a TRS-80 Model 100. I, too, had a cassette drive. I still have that computer: it runs off 4xAA (or a 6-volt lantern battery FOREVER) and I don't recall if it had 24 or 32K ram in it. 8 row by 40 column LCD display ( ... )
