What's extra sad to me is the high percentage of Natives on the list and how many families have more than one member on the list. Also, whoa. I just found some one I went to school with. So awful.

It's the families that kill me. The idea that we repeat the behavior we see around us is so strong has such a devastating effect on this list.

In Ohio all felony offenders are registered, and i decided to take a look at the felons in my neighborhood. And, damn, you never know. I checked out one guy who also looked not like your stereotypical felon. Then i did some research, and he was in jail for first degree murder in Cook County. However, digging further, he was charged on the basis of weak evidence and a confession extracted under dubious circumstances. In addition, he spent six years awaiting trial, until a lawyer working pro bono overturned the charges. Apparently he was still charged with felonious assault. And now he's living in Cincinnati and still on the list of registered felons. Insane.

I also visited the sex offenders page, and found out one dude lives five houses down from me. Great.
