I feel horrible. I updated Sidewalks on AFIslash.com a week ago and never did it here.

Disclaimer: I do not own AFI or know them personally. This is a work of fiction. DAVEY HAVOK DOES NOT HAVE AIDS. It's creepy, I was on Myspace and someone said there was a rumor he did... wasn't me.

Chapter Seven: I Fell Into Fantasy

Jade looked around the room, realizing that Davey was missing for an half hour. He knew Davey was notorious for disappearing on him because of personal reasons, he knew that he'd come back to at least tell him what. He got up and walked to the bathroom. Realizing it was empty, he opened up random rooms. Closet... no Davey. Guest bed... no Davey. Empty room that no one knows what to do with... no Davey. Jade's room... no Davey. He finally went to the last room, Davey's own room. There laid Davey on his bed, asleep. Jade almost shrugged it off until he realized the coat of sweat on Davey's forehead. Then he knew something was wrong. He placed the back of his hand on Davey's forehead and cringed. Fever.

By now Jade was used to this. Fevers, colds, infections, whatever. It wasn't a concern anymore that Davey was sick, it was just a way of life. To him it was like a pattern, like brushing your teeth after you eat. Davey gets sick, Davey looks horrible, Davey goes to the hospital, Davey looks a little better, Davey gets sick again.

This was a normal day.

Jade tried to wake up Davey. When Davey opened his eyes in slits, Jade yanked him up, put a jacket on him, and dragged him into the car, leaving Adam and Hunter with, "Davey's sick. We'll be back."

Hunter and Adam stared at each other, confused. This wasn't fun.

When Jade got Davey into a room he hung out on the plastic chairs, looking at people that surrounded him. There was everything from dads awaiting to hear about their children, people bleeding into towels, and people vomitting uncontrolably into garbage cans. Same old, same old to both the doctors in the emergancy room and Jade himself.

Even though the images were quite frightening at times, Jade was more scared at how he was acting. He was being... calm. It was not a good calm. It was just a kind of blank way of being there. like he almost didn't care. He quickly shot down those feelings and began to try and think of what the doctors would say.

Well, he found out soon enough. A woman went up to him and shook his hand. "Hello, Mr. Puget. Mr. Havok had a reaction to medication. A few tweaks here and there and he will be fine. Well, there is another problem. Did you know that he's having degeneration in his left eye?"

This caught Jade off guard. "What?" he asked.

"The CTT seems to have taken a toll on him," she sighed, "He's losing sight. We can stop this, but the only way would be to cut off CTT for a catarack[1] surgery. It's your call."

"Of course!" Jade exclaimed, slapping his hands to his sides. "Can't be easy, can it? My God... Can I see Davey... maybe see if he can put some input in?"

"Be my guess," the doctor said bitterly, "I don't gurantee you'll get what you were looking for... but whatever."

Jade gave a dirty look as he went into the appropriate room. Davey was awake, staing off to space. His cheeks were light pink, better than before. Jade kissed his forehead.

Davey half-heartedly swatted him away. "I look horrible!" he snapped.

Jade laughed. "Whatever. You okay?"

"Fine, better than ever," Davey deadpanned, "Is Adam and Hunter okay?"

"A little confused, "Jade replied, "But that's it. Why didn't you say anything?"

"I don't know... it came fast..." Davey mumbled.

"Well, the doctor said it was reaction to medication... the doctor knows that they're doing, so don't fight if they make you take more or less of something. But, did you realize that your left eye is getting bad?"

Davey nodded. "Yeah. Of course I do. It doesn't focus properly.

"Well, that's the thing. They can fix your eye, but they will have to stop your medication for awhile."

"So I have to chose between my eyes or life... hm."

"Yeah, basically."

"It figures."

"So what will it be?"

"...screw the eyes... It doesn't matter..."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Okay. It's your body."

************************************

Davey was released the next day, once his fever was down. Jade, who stayed the night after calling Adam and Hunter, drove him home. They didn't talk for most of the ride. "Hey, Davey," Jade said, "Since you fucked up your birthday, how about we go to a resturante in a few days.?"

"Uh... sure..." Davey replied, "I'll be fine... gimme two days..."

"Okay! That works! I'll hold you to it."

********************************

"Daddy!" fifteen year-old Tabitha poked her father, "You see? You see? That's Drusilla's favorite singer, Davey Havok and his guitarist Jade... whatever."

Drusilla looked up, ignoring the fact that Tabitha couldn't seem to remember "Puget" and whispered, "Oh my God..."

The middle-aged balding business man that was both their father looked up, "...The guys with the long hair...? Ick... he looks horrible..."

"He's got AIDS, Dad," Tabitha said bluntly.

"Oh. See, Dru? No need to listen to people like him..."

"Dad!" Drusilla yelled, slamming her fist on the table. Her long crimson hair fell in her face in sheets. "That's rude!" Her eyes watered. "How dare you..."

"Why are you mad?" Tabitha asked, her crown of high curls on her head bouncing.

Drusilla fell silent. She couldn't tell her father or sister about how she was HIV-positive after using dirty needles to try some drugs. Only her mother knew, and only her mother cared. They wouldn't care. They teamed up with each other after Dru's parents had a bitter divorce. They'd hate her even more. She didn't even tell them about how her mother was a nervous wreck and how the only way Dru could escape anything was drown in music like her beloved band AFI. She was there when Davey admitted he had AIDS. She was in the front after her father leaked some money after furious demands from her mother. She wished that her father would get something like HIV/AIDS so that he'd look at life and realize how much of a fool he was, but instead, she got it. Karma.

She mentally promised herself that she'd talk to the two people who sat a few tables from her no matter what.

**************************

"What? How do you know she's got HIV?" Jade asked.

"... I don't know... it's like a sixth sense or something..." Davey mumbled.

"...oh... I see," Jade said.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Jade... that was alittle depressing... too depressing for even me... we should try and find something happy to talk about... uhm..."

Jade flipped his hair. "Uhm... I went darker on my brown hair..."

"Really? Let me see!" Davey said, leaning over the table to see. "Oooh... it's nice. I like it."

He leaned back, the chair shaking. He shut his eyes, wishing the chair wouldn't fall over. It didn't.

A waitress came over and said, "Uhm... sir?" to Davey.

"Yes?" Davey asked, nervous. People were known to find sores on him before he did.

"Would you like more water?" she asked.

Davey laughed nervously. "Oh! Sure! Of course!"

She clunked the empty glass on her plate, clunking into a glass of wine, careful not to spill. She walked to Drusilla's table and handed the wine to her father. "Here you go, sir."

The man stared at her and then the glass. "Take it back. It had AIDS on it."

Both Davey and Jade heard it and had a chill go down their spines.

"Jade, how..."

"Sh."

Dru jumped up. "Dad!"

"Dru!" he snapped, "Sit down. Waitress, just return it."

"Dad! That's irrational! You don't get AIDS from glasses touching! Apologize to her and Mr. Havok!"

"No. It's just as well-" he then whispered, "-he has AIDS. He's a queer. We don't need that in this world."

Tabitha growled. "Shut up, both of you!"

"I'll return it... sorry... "the waitress muttered.

Dru ran up to Davey and Jade. "Mr. Puget, Mr. Havok, I'm sorry... so sorry... my Dad's a jerk! It's not fair!"

The two stared at the panicked girl. "It's okay."

"No, it's not!" she cried, "Everyone treats you different when you have HIV... they think you're a mass murderer or something... then people that care lie to you! They try to make you feel better with their 'it's okay's and 'I love you's, but they're crying whenever you're not looking! And you just cry every night. You pray that you will die quick so they don't cry anymore or you pray that you'll get a cure that will never come." She paused. "I'm scared for you and me both, Mr. Havok. I really am. I... I don't want either of us die."

Jade stood up. This was too much for even him.

Davey looked at her dead in the eye. "It's true..." he looked around, getting up and leading her out to the parking lot not to scare anyone. Jade didn't follow. "It's true," he said. "Everyday I wish for a cure... I wish for someway to stay alive a little onger... I just want a few more years that will not come. Then I become bitter and say, 'why hope? Kill me now, oh, God, kill me. You're so high and mighty.' And I know my parents don't see the same me anymore. My dad's ashamed. My mom thinks I'm a doll. Then there's Jade... he... he's crying. I know he is. He has nightmares, but he thinks a straight face will keep me from freaking out. It doesn't. It makes me more worried about him."

Dru nodded. "My mom is like that."

"I knew you had HIV. I didn't know you were bitter about it, " he said.

"Yeah... I am... we're not that different."

"We're not. Are you seeking help?"

"I think I will now."

"DRUSILLA!" Dru's father roared.

Drusilla started to cry. "I... I'm scared."

Davey hugged her protectively. "If they do anything... I... I'll try and do something... I promise..."

"I know you will, Davey Havok."

"Davey!" Jade cried.

Davey made a face as the two victims parted.

Jade and Davey went back into the resturante and sat in their chairs.

Davey covered his face. "I'm sorry... I want a normal day for you... and I can't even go to a dinner without fucking up..."

Jade shook his head. "I don't bare about that. I'm a little more worried about what you said."

Davey shuddered. "Look, Jade, I'm..."

"Do you really think I'm not treating this correctly?" Jade asked.

Davey bit his lip. "I... I..."

"Do you have a problem with it? I can change, Davey. I can in a second."

"Well, what do you really think about... AIDS..."

Jade sighed. "It's horrible. I'm mortified whenever I see another person with it. And with you... you're wasting away and I can't help you. I want to. I really want to. If I wasn't supposidly so mature I'd mutilate myself until I was in as much pain as you. I always get a little upset when I talk to you for extended periods of time... I just want us to be happy."

"Someone up there hates us," Davey mumbled.

"No... hey... I thought you were the God around here," Jade said jokingly. "We're meant to be, sweetie. We're perfect. Everyone else has the problems. You're fine, even though your body doesn't reflect what you really are. And besides, we got that pure love going on. You know, we don't need to fuck or anything... I mean, we can talk about this in public! Do you think if we were fucking all day long we could do this?"

Jade's voice was getting higher, even though he didn't realize it.

Davey covered his face. "Jade... you're making it seem like you need a good fuck... really... I'll personally get you a whore at this rate..."

Jade shook his head. "No! No! No! Argh! No! Look, if I was to fuck someone, it would be you."

"Which is suicide," Davey added.

"I know..." Jade sighed.

They were silent. Food came and they barely moved.

"Your love is rather pure, Jade," Davey whispered. "I love you. I wish I could do more. I really... Jade... are you mocking me?!"

Jade dropped his hand that was obviously moving to Davey's voice. "...no... not at all... uhm... FOOD!"
