Well... Hey everyone! Uhm... yeah... I'm way too perky for a story like this...
...anyways, this will be BETAED! Thank you, seravance! *hugs*
Disclaimer: It has been a few months of attempts... but no. I still do not own AFI or anything that has to do with it. This is all fiction and DAVEY HAVOK DOES NOT HAVE AIDS. Don't let those guys on Myspace tell you otherwise! And I do not own the lyrics featured (you get a cookie if you remember what it is.)
And this chapter shall be short. I'm sorry, but the next one will be longer.

Chapter 8: Cut-Off Date
Three Months Later
"I... I can't see..." Davey whispered quietly.
"What?" Jade screamed.
"Jade, I can't see..." Davey repeated again. He had just walked into Jade's room, a gaunt sillouette on the bright yellow light of the hallway. He began to mumble over and over, his hand covering his bad eye, "I can't see... my eye is fucked... I can't see..."
Jade panicked. "Oh shit! Davey! Davey!"
Then he remembered.
"Davey... remember? Your eye was getting bad from CTT and you didn't want to get it repaired," he said quietly. He watched Davey sigh heavily and lean on the frame of the doorway. "Oh... right... I forgot... about that..."
"It's okay, Dave... there's been enough in your life to forget some things..." Jade said, biting his tongue.
Davey didn't care, he fully understood. It was the new year and everything was blowing up in their faces already. The holidays were ruined because Davey got a horrible infection and couldn't go anywhere. At midnight on the first day of the year, Jade couldn't kiss Davey. He couldn't even stand in the same room. Jade got a bad headcold and knew that Davey would easily catch it after the infection, even though Davey begged. And as for sick days and well days, Jade couldn't tell the difference. Everything seemed to blur together. Before they knew it, Davey would have had AIDS a whole year and it would be a horrible reflection for Jade. He had Davey where he wanted him always... but he couldn't touch him. It was like having a caged pet, one you could only poke with through the bars (in his case, kiss) and not be able to play with it (sex.) But the more Jade would think of that, the more he would gag. Davey was so skinny now. He could see his ribs poking out. His hair was now a mess of grey and brown. He hadn't dyed it in ages. He didn't write very much anymore. He didn't ask Jade to pull out the guitar and play out something anymore. He just lost all enthusiasm for everything.
Jade got up and held Davey close. Davey didn't fight back or anything. He just shifted from leaning on the door frame to leaning on Jade. He didn't cry. He didn't scream. He didn't murmer about how unfair everything was. He just stayed there.
He just looked dead.
Jade refused to make eye contact. He didn't want to cry now. Not when Davey was not showing any emotion. Crying would cause a chain reaction. And it was pointless for two people to cry over something that would never get better. So Jade just stood there, quiet for a few minutes. Then he tried to get a conversation out of him.
"...You feel like doing anything?"
"...no..."
"You sure?"
"...no..."
"So... make up your mind..."
"I don't know what I want."
"...okay..."
"Maybe go to the city?"
Jade's eyes lit up. He hadn't been in public for so long. "R-really?"
"Yeah... I'm not sick at the moment and we're not doing anything... so let's go."
Jade nodded. "Okay! Let's go! Get ready, Dave! Yes!"
Davey smiled as Jade jumped around like a little kid. He disappeared into the bathroom. He opened the medicine cabinet and pulled out an electric razor Jade had. He plugged it in and watched it vibrate in his hand. He held it tight as he put it to his head and began to shave uneven lines over his scalp. Hair fell around him in tuffs. By the time he was done it was shorter than his eyebrows... which screamed, "Pluck me!" He brushed off the excess hair and kicked the tuffs of hair aside to be dealt with later. He found a tweezer and plucked his eyebrows as best as he could. After putting on some eyeliner and putting a nice ring in his lip he was pleased with the overall look. As he swept up the hair on the floor Jade knocked on the door. "Davey? What are you doing...? Can I come in?"
Davey replied, "Yeah... sure..."
Jade opened the door and gasped. "Oh... God... you cut your hair."
Davey nodded, his head suddenly lighter. "It looked stupid, anyway, Jade. Don't worry about it."
Jade put his hands on Davey's head. "It's definitely different... uhm... you could have had a Mohawk..."
"Spur of the moment, Jade," Davey replied, throwing out the hair. "You know that."
Jade nodded. "Well... are you ready to go?"
Davey nodded once more, enjoying the lightness for a few more moments.

"Please, can you spare some money?" a homeless man asked as soon as Jade and Davey got out of the car.
Jade looked at Davey. Davey pulled out a dollar. "Here you go..."
The homeless man took the dollar. "Bless ya, son," he said and allowed them to go on their merry way.
Jade looked at Davey. "Why did you do that? He could have used that to buy drugs."
Davey shrugged. "You need to take those chances, Jade... you know that..."
Jade turned his head and saw the homeless man go to a soda machine and get a water. "I guess you're right."
They kept walking. A slow wave of whispers came when they saw Davey. Davey ignored it, bringing his earphones to his head and allowing the music to overtake the voices, but Jade heard it all.
"What do you think is wrong with him?" someone asked.
"AIDS," the other replied.
"Oh..." the first one said, sighing. "Of course..."
How do you just ignore everyone like that... Jade thought, watching Davey mouth lyrics. ...I'm still not use to that...
They kept walking, a child or two pointing out that Davey was bald. Jade shuddered. Davey kept mouthing lyrics, singing a few lines.
"Nothing really matters... anyone can see... nothing really matters to me."
