Week 2 But Not Really: A pause in the action

Are you here because you've been advised that your username was linked in this entry? Please... do read on. It's possibly important, or possibly not. Depends on how you feel about public critique of your LJI work. Maybe go for the big chunk of boldface toward the end if you're really pressed for time.

So what does LJI The Community do with its ( Read more... )

Personally, I hope the voting out of children wasn't deliberate, but I did find it suspicious that in the last 5 minutes, a vote disappeared for one child that would have tied with another person.

Oh. My. God.

Whoever "strategically" placed and then retracted that vote should really contact the Guinness people. They've officially hit the record personal low for the entire history of the Internet.

I propose that everyone in Idol should hold off on posting until I do.

I ain't scared of you.

Also something scathing would be interesting to read.* Hm.

*Something scathing of MY OWN WRITING, I should say. The crit, give me the crit, etc.

Too bad I don't think everyone will follow this plan. =p

I would totally volunteer to be first, but I don't think there's any chance people will be holding off on posting until Monday night at 7:45. Too bad. XD

Also, LJ didn't notify me that my name was linked. Fuck you, LJ.

lololol

It didn't notify me either, so it's all good. (I was trolling the topic thread)

Looking through my own available notification options, and much to my chagrin, it seems LJ has totally turned off-- or has at least gone Facebook-grade black-box-arbitrary with-- emailed notification of userlinks in others' posts.

However, I spent something like 30 minutes hand-copying, proofreading, and via-macro-[lj user]-reformatting all 260 remaining LJI-participant names that were taggable to this entry. So even if that waste of lifeforce doesn't have the intended effect / payoff, I at least want it to be visible to all that, dammit, I tried.

So, again, I guess this still is on the likes of those who HAVE seen this final warning to, y'know, spread the word. And yes, fuck you, LJ, indeed.

I would offer to lobby whatever meager following I still have on this dying site to vote for you each week... partly because I like the effort and innovation to do "something different," but mostly because I've always loathed the self-righteous little groups that get involved in LJI and bitch and moan and talk about "fair" and it being about "the writing" and "encouragement" and "positivity" and then ban together like a clique of uptight housewives trying to stage a coup at their local PTA or HOA meeting...totally exposing their own hypocrisy and becoming just as unfair and negative and discouraging as those they pretend to not like while resorting to the time-tested excuse of all hypocrites "they did it first--we were just getting even" and thus proving themselves bound-for-hell for not following in the philosophy of JC, who once said "turn the other cheek, mother fucker." These are the same people who got up in arms and staged a fake vote to take out some boring chick who won week after week thanks to having 400 friends because ( ... )

I enjoyed THIS comment, right down to the ever-so-slightly misogynistic undercurrent running through bits of it. I'd frankly be a pretty shitty excuse for a troll if I couldn't admit to reflexively smiling at some of that. Besides, I honestly can't say your chosen colorful nouns / adjectives / descriptions of LJI phenomena are what you'd call off base ( ... )

On one hand, I was going for childish more than misogynistic. Of course, on the other hand, do you see a bunch of dude-bros getting together online to bitch about someone's post? Of course not. Guys who would do that don't have time for LJI--they're too busy posting conspiracy theories about the government's role in Flight 370 or writing 500 word responses to every Obama post on Facebook as if he actually reads (or makes) the posts. Hell, I've survived over 100 weeks of LJI and hardly ever set foot in the green rooms unless it's to read about controversy or interact with people who looks attractive in their usericons. Sure, there is a social element and people can make new online friends and find some community...but it's not one big happy community. Like the real world, we all gravitate toward our own fringe element while the less erudite settle on being a member of the large, boring, unoriginal middle ( ... )

Particularly hearty lulz at your "male equivalent of LJI lady scenester = Infowars-lovin' conspiracy theorist" theory. It's funny because it's def not entirely untrue!

Although there does seem to be an inverse correlation between one's tendency to post DAMN YOU OBAMAs all over t3h intarwebz and... well... being a halfway decent speller.

Anyway, these were some A+++ comments / distractions for a boring Saturday afternoon. Hope to see you around, and I also hope that if Gary ever does feel he must "do something" about me, he will make direct public reference to "having found a way to silence the lambs" or etc.

(You listening, clauderainsrm? ...Oh shit, I guess we already established that *that* trick doesn't work any more.)

Good point. People in LJ are SRS FUCKING SPELLING NAZIS. Personally, I've often theorized that people who feel they have no control over their own life and/or no significant impact on the world will hopelessly try to re-balance the scale by taking charge and being anal about the most tedious fucking bullshit on earth. I mean, I'm all for proper spelling and grammar--but this ain't exactly writing a persuasive letter to your loan officer so they won't foreclose on the farm and rob you and your four kids of a place to rest their weary heads ( ... )
