Casefile 011

Bastet, Stoneface, I'm sorry for my absence. The elevator seems to be repaired now, but it took me somewhere I didn't plan to go, and then wouldn't let me leave. I didn't mean to miss any shifts, and I'm more than willing to work a few extras to make up for whatever I was absent for.

Did I miss anything interesting?

damage report, halp?

Oh, it is so great to see your fair hand again, dear Nikki.

[[OOC: Rick had her journal; did you want to log/handwave them bumping into each other?]]

Hi Rick. Thank you for keeping my journal for me.

[derp, i completely forgot he was keeping her journal. we can do a log/quicklog if you like! it's been a while. either way i assume he would have eagerly informed her of his name, yes? XD]

No problemo.

[Yeah, I'd love to log! I can set it up when I have a chance this evening- I'm at work right now and then we're having company over for dinner. Would you be OK assuming that they just bumped into each other when she left the elevator, he gave her her journal, and then she ran off before they could talk and agreed to meet later?]

I'm sorry for running off like that, but I had to try and touch base with work. Unauthorized vacations tend to be frowned upon. [pause] Can I buy you dinner later, for so diligently taking care of my journal in my absence?

[that works for me! i should be home all evening because i have no life. :D]

Christ, Nikki, it's been over a month!

[...oh yeah, he's supposed to be a gentleman. Right.]

A pleasure to see your writing again. If your two bosses aren't intent on working you to a pulp, come by for a drink sometime. Or if they are working you to a pulp, perhaps it's even more prudent to indulge in a drink. Either one.

A month? [okay, she's reading the rest of everyone's replies before making more replies... good grief.] It certainly didn't feel like a month. It was definitely longer than I would have liked, but it really didn't feel like a whole month.

[a pause here... she's a bit frazzled now--she lost an entire MONTH...]

I'll have to see how much trouble I'm in for going AWOL at work, but if this happens relatively frequently, then hopefully I won't be grounded. I'll keep you posted; I would love to drop by for a drink and a chat. Apparently I missed some really exciting stuff.

I've been told that that's the case more often that not. That aside, I was beginning to get rather worried--it's not unheard of that some unfortunate individuals disappear while stolen away by the elevator.

That you did! You chose a good month to be whisked away. And come by while this strange dancing thing is still happening at that--surely you wouldn't say no to a little dance, hm?

Sorry to have worried you. I'd like to say that you won't be rid of me so easily, but unfortunately these things seem rather out of our hands.

And it seems we couldn't say no to these dances if we wanted to, so either way I suppose you'd be right. I can't guarantee my tango is up to snuff, though, so promise you won't be too visibly disappointed.

I was starting to wonder when we'd see your face again. Welcome back. Don't worry about catching up on missed shifts, 'cos it's happened to the best of us, but I expect you to start up again pretty quickly.

You've missed quite a bit. A hurricane, for one. If things look a bit different around here, it's because there's been some rebuilding going on.

Thank you. It's good to be back. And I'm ready to pick up where I left off anytime; I wasn't injured or anything during my absence.

Were there many casualties of the hurricane? I guess maybe I was fortunate to have missed that.

Yes, there was one. Kagami - our bookkeeper, as you'll remember - went missing. I'm not sure if it was the hurricane, or if it was just another disappearance, but somehow I think that will remain a mystery.

Oh, yes I remember him. We only met in passing, but I'm sorry to hear he is no longer here. Or [pause] Well, maybe I'm happy for him that he's gone home, but this entire situation is kind of thorny.

I don't know if it's a matter of repairing it. I think the lift will always be prone to these little spats of kidnapping. That said... welcome back.

Pity we haven't got the option of taking the stairs.

Thank you, it's good to be back. How have you been?

Ahaha, thank ya~ live_ringer November 13 2010, 22:00:49 UTC
Unfortunately. Maybe it'll be an option one of these days. If not stairs, maybe a rope ladder.

Decent enough. How'd your unexpected trip go? See anything interesting?

I really think there should at least be a fire escape.

It wasn't unpleasant. Is it normal to experience deja-vu when this sort of thing happens? The place the elevator took me felt very familiar, but any identifying information was unintelligible. It was like anything with a name on it was behind frosted glass.

It is good to see your handwriting again.

There seems to be an epidemic of rhythm, so if you find yourself dancing uncontrollably, do not be alarmed.

Thank you; I really didn't mean to be away so long. [[i don't think we've actually done much journal chatting, but since they worked together on the Guard i hope recognizing her handwriting is acceptable. :3]]

An epidemic of rhythm? Sounds like a bad Broadway musical. I'll keep that in mind. I don't think I'm a very good dancer, but I guess we'll see.

[Yep, plus she's 2nd-in-command of the Watch so I figure they'd know each other XD] It is not something you should hold yourself accountable for.

Broadway? [She has a book on that somewhere.] I do not think our own ability matters. It seems that the Sphere is directing our feet itself.

dont_leave_town November 13 2010, 22:20:22 UTC
Yes, Broadway, it's [pause. how to explain...? it's been made relatively clear that she and Handmaiden come from VERY different places...] a form of entertainment. Actors dress up in costumes and fill roles in plays that have songs and a musical score. It's like acting out a story with a soundtrack, and sometimes they sing their conversations rather than speak them.

I guess that sounds a bit ridiculous.

[pause. lol.] Well, I guess I kind of always wanted to take a few dance lessons. Maybe this will be useful.
