I suppose that drinking and driving won't really be an issue tonight. So what are your New Years' resolutions, everyone? Me, I'm thinking I'd like to [pause] read more.

measure the year by the experience
I think calendars are outdated

I think that's not a bad idea, but calendars do help keep track of the work week, at least.

Most especially when not everyone follows the same calendar.

Drinking and driving?

Well, drinking is sure to happen, but we don't have to worry about anyone getting into a car accident because of it.

People drink before they race in the arcade games? I think that would make it very challenging.

While drunken Gran Turismo does sound challenging, it's more when they get behind the wheels of actual cars that I'm concerned.

New Year's resolutions?

Yes, it's tradition to make a plan for the new year to do something you didn't achieve the previous year. People don't always keep them, but it's a nice idea.

[Pause, while she ponders that.]

What about the year that's past?

It's usually reflected on, sometimes more elaborately than others. New Years celebrations are a sendoff of the past year and a welcoming of the new.

Actually mostly they're just an excuse to drink and stay up late and shoot fireworks, but in a perfect world...

I can give you book recommendations if you need them.

And maybe you can inspire Derrick to write something again?

[LOL, from what she's heard, she's not so sure your book tastes would be compatible, Bell, but the thought is appreciated!]

Well, since I can't read the one of his that I found, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing what he's actually capable of. A self-proclaimed great writer like him should be a good read, right?

[woe! Well, he tried.]

Oh, I'm sure he's a very good read. You'll have to tell us how he is on and between the sheets pages.

[Oh she sees what you did there.]

I'll make sure to let you know if I find anything reading between the lines.

I have to agree with Qi here. Why count the year when nobody is keeping track.

It's more the tradition than the keeping track, for me anyway. Time passes whether you celebrate it or not; might as well make use of it, right?

I guess. Happy New Year then. You gonna celebrate with someone?

I didn't have anything planned, really. I thought maybe I'd just have a glass of wine and catch up on some paperwork. But I guess if something comes up, I could potentially be coerced into some festivities.

Happy New Year to you too, Genius.
