first night santa cruz 2004
last night was pretty eventful.
i was supposed to go with paige and travis around 730 because we wanted to get decent parking, but travis wasnt able to leave until 830
then michael called and i picked him up and we got there and luckily, were able to park in the free parking lot! we called elaine and weston up and were going to meet up but they were being idiots and did not want to be with their friends. which i kinda thought was fucked up because we ALWAYS do stuff together on new years.
anyway, michael and i just walked around downtown. the first musicians we saw were a bunch of teenage bagpipers.they were so awesome! so awesome, taht i wriggled my way through the crowd to take a picture..
...then we kept walking and we stopped again when we saw a nother group who were incredible..one guy was beating on a trashcan and the others were playing instruments i dont know the names of but they were really good so again, i felt compelled to take a picture.
we continued to walk down the street seeing more people, hearing more musicians. then we came upon a compounding congregation of people who had different forms of drums and were making random beats and that was really fun.
more walking..and then we turned aroudn and started walking back..repeat this a couple times, ha. we went to get ice cream at cold stone and then we saw steven [gasp!] and mikey so we talked to them for a while..we saw this guy in a turban i dont know what he was on but he kept swinging the air and almost hit me..twice! haha. he was funny cause hed talk to himself and then take giant steps and do silly things.
we then went into this big side alley thing..but it was all lit up and nice so it wasnt really an alley, but anyway there were eye masks so i took some and i handed them out to people who looked like they would like a pair of sparkly, feathered cardboard starshaped cut out glasses.
michael kept saying he wanted to see a movie and i really didnt want to but luckily while walking to the cinema, we saw our friends and they called us over. it was shelley, paige, eric, kathleen, kristin, john, jessica, travis, eunice, and melissa. we decided that if we ever got lost we would yell out "shamu" and hey, guess what..it really worked. we got lost a couple times and if we yelled it, we would always find each other. i guess the fact taht paige and i had our handy little walkie talkies [yah, were nerds] helped.
..so then we all decided to go...DANCING! we hurried to the el palomar ballroom where we learned how to swing dance..it was so much fun because we all knew we sucked [baaad] at it, but didnt care and just danced. it was great.
after that we just walked around for a while and then around 1130 we walked to the clock tower and there was music and we were having a great time just dancing. and random people would come join our circle. we decided that when it was 10 seconds to midnight we would circle up and then all put our heads in and then kiss, haha. it was great.
so then there was the countdown and we did our little group kissy and we hugged and kissed and i felt so happy to be able to spend new years with my friends. more dancing..but then the speaker blew out! i felt bad for the dj cause there were a bunch of jerks..one even had the audacity to call him a "little bitch" which was so uncalled for.
anyway the cops all decided it was time to end the festivities so we walked down the street and waited for a while so eunice could get a humungo balloon hat. we were thinking of goingto the beach or getting a bite to eat but i dont know what the end plan was cause i had to leave anyway.
but the BEST PART OF FIRST NIGHT...
while we were walking to our cars guess who i saw..matt!! i was so happy, i havent seen him since august! and he looks so good..hes growing a little beard and i really like it. we hugged a lot a lot a lot and previously wed been talking online and he said he wanted to hang otu with me and gave me his number which, lazy me, did not write down and lost, but i was able to get it and he got mine so we are definitely going to hang out during break. but yah, seeing him made my night. hes probably one of the only friends i have who actually thinks im a really cool person and he takes the time to tell me and show me that. i met his friends and they all seemed pretty nice too. im so happy that hes having a great time at school in san fran and i wish i wouldve applied to the same one..oh well.
i dropped michael off and then i came home and i woke up a couple hours later [4 am] to tak emy mom to the airport. the rain was horrible! and i wasnt able to sleep on the wya up but whatever. on our way back i seriously drove 55 mph the whole way it was so frightening. there have been only two occasions while driving that ive feared my life..the first time was when i was driving up to see dehrek in redwood city and the second time was this morning. it felt like the tires were being grabbed and when i car drove in front of me it was like a big bucket of water was thrown on my windshield and i couldnt see. anyway, im glad i got my sister and i home safely. i jsut went to sleep until 130-ish.
that was new years night. i hope eveyrone else had a good one.
