haha... yeah, basically. >_< Re: people who've acted the role - I agree to an extent, I think acting a role gives you a very thorough understanding of one interpretation of that role, but your overall understanding of the character isn't a lot bigger, just a little, or maybe a medium-size amount.
*sigh* Well, at least it was just the sonnets - not much to talk about there, TBH. XD We're starting Hamlet tomorrow!
I really need to re-watch BatS again, but whenever I put it in the computer it will only play the writer commentary (which is hilarious, but I want my Jed/Octy, damnit!).
Haha. I've not had an excuse to use this icon in months. XD
Told you they were slashy. :D The Rome diorama confuses the hell out of me, too. The fact that the Colosseum is slap-bang in the middle of the background suggests that the Rome in the diorama should be at least from the Flavian period, ie, nearly sixty years after the death of Augustus, so if Octavius is supposed to be The Octavius (and there's no evidence either way, but fandom in general tends to suppose he is), they really shouldn't be in the same display. I prefer to think of him as being a plastic figurine of Generic Roman General, who just happens to be called Octavius when he wakes up
( ... )
I've read some fics that make it clear that he is The Octavius and some that specify they're under a different emperor. Re: Generic Roman General, that does seem to be the answer that makes the most sense. Especially if Jedediah's just a generic cowboy.
I wonder if there are any West geeks out there grumbling about how they wouldn't have used dynamite for X purpose at the time when that style of vest was in fashion, etc. XD Probably not. Are there any West geeks, period?
*cough* It was a little brainbaby I had a while ago. I still have B&H on my computer, so I figured I might as well do something with it. :P But every time I go to rip the song from youtube, I get distracted by the thought of Robot Unicorn Attack.
Yes! I'm looking forward to it. :D We'll start reading Hamlet today.
I think sometimes fandom conflates Jed with the explorer Jedediah Smith, except that the historical Smith wasn't a cowboy, and died before the whole railway building boom took off in the West, so... er... I think generic plastic figurines is the best bet. XD
Come to think of it, I can't recall ever coming across any Wild West geeks in fandom. It just seems to attract the Roman geeks for some reason!
I'd watch it. :D
Oh, well, definitely enjoy! How long does the course run for?
I WATCHED THE FIRST ONE! My major complaint is . . . I CAN HAZ MOAR JED/OCT PLZ? I mean . . . why oh why didn't we get to see their journey back from their carcrash? I bet one of them fell down in the snow at some point, lost consciousness, and had to be carried part of the way by the other (the question is, which? I haven't decided yet). And then whoever it was finally came round and was all WTF PUT ME DOWN RIGHT NOW YOU [kick-kick-struggle-struggle-some-ineffective-weapon-drawn] then, realization dawning HEY . . . hey wait . . . you didn't have to . . . you just . . . you . . . [moment of adorable UST and awkwardly expressed gratitude] :P. Oh man can someone write that fic please!!! dang, maybe i'll have to do it. Don't even know if there's a fan com for them :-/ . . .
I'll get back to you about what period I think Octavius is from . . . have some books that should help me . . . dang, i really need to get a hold of that second movie. Is there anywhere it can be watched online for free? (was taken of youtube :'( . . . )
The name is a reference you won't get until you see the second movie, which has MUCH more slash than the first one.
And, yes, you need to write that fic NOW. I suppose they didn't leave it in for ~suspense~
Searching "watch night at the museum smithsonian" renders a fair amount of linklists, here is one place to watch it. The second one is perhaps not quite as good a movie as the first one (Larry romance plot DNW), but it's also much slashier and has lots of lovely sentiments a la "I would sooner die than leave you to fight alone" - "I would sooner die than watch you die". Well, they don't say those exact words, but that's what's IMPLIED, anyway, and the phrase "Roman melodrama" comes up. :P
