So the culmination of my all-nighter last night was me watching Julius Caesar - not, actually, the Shakespeare one, but
this 2002 TV film, which I found on youtube. The image is not the most flattering, nor is that the right trailer, obviously, but search "julius caesar 2002" on youtube and you'll find something.
I enjoyed it! A lot! It felt kind of

Er, right.
I think I've stumbled across bits and pieces of this at times, but I either couldn't find the whole thing, or did find it but didn't have time to watch it. Evidently I shall have to look into it further. Wee!philosophy-reading!Brutus sounds absolutely adorable . . . and another Cassius would always be worthwhile. And Pompey would be good to see (although my recollection was that, at least after Julia's death if not even before, `tolerate' would be an accurate, if not optimistic term for how he and Caesar got along). Too, this next chapter of the Greek vs. Roman running gag seems to merit some attention as well. ;)
Oh, and words vs. deeds. When I bother to remember, I have a massive fetish on that subject, thanks to a really awesome line of the Iliad.
And, finally, many congratulations on mod-dom!

I can link you to the whole thing! It's on youtube. It's like... three hours long, or something, but if you have time, it's worthwhile. The thing about this was it was heavily influenced by modern ideas of love and marriage (and politics too, perhaps, though not quite to the same extent because those actually influenced the plot). Example: Julia and Pompey married for love. They had to get Caesar's permission, and only got it when he was absolutely assured that Pompey loved her. The first Triumvirate didn't even exist; it wasn't a political alliance. So yeah... 'tolerate' would probably be the best word for it, especially if Pompey is just Caesar's son-in-law, not his ally.
Heh. It's definitely one of my favorites ;D. I'm going to put up a couple more screencaps of the duo, so you can see how terribly dark-skinned (well, comparatively) he looks there.
Thank you! :D
