I took my father to see it last night. I'm kind of thinking it's a bit sad that everyone's saying it's a recycled story. It occured to me that people do not drive through parks and cities pointing at statues going, dude, what the hell, so these guys saved a bunch of people and brought them freedom, what's the big deal? It's the only story we have an imperitive to really impress on the young; recognize these warning signs, do not let peole ruin your home, do not refuse help when it is offered because you are justifiably angry, do not repeat our mistakes. We all know what our ancestors are guilty of. We all know what a hero looks like. We may not all agree on who deserves this title but we all recognize worship and take sides or feign neutrality. What's rarer than a post from me? A reply from you! :)

Well-said...I'm not saying it's not a story Worth Being Retold, or that I wasn't moved by the plight of the Nav'i and the sight of their land being destroyed. Just that for the Biggest Spectacular Ever, it was an Olde Tale. But yes, those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it, and if the zillion or so eyeballs that have seen Avatar are reminded of that, then that's a good thing.

(provided they haven't been trained by dumb movies to not even recognize allegory)
