I'm not the biggest experts, but macs are technically Unix based machines, with the Mac OS just being a shell.

I know that terminal access with macs does a lot of what that link shows-- but i'm not techy enough to say that with 100% confidence.

There's probably a way I don't know to do this, but I just tried to get into something that would tell me what this Mac is doing and there's no easy access like going into a PC's task manager, or even having the DOS screen at start up.

I guess there may be a Unix kernel that Mac's OS is build around, like the one that Linux is, but I'm no one I know uses Linux. I'm sure there's planty on the Web about it if I just look.

in the applications menu, there is a folder called Utilities. In there is an app called Activity monitor. Does that do what you're looking for?

I actually found Linux to be a little TOO open and customizable. It feels like you can go down to the source code of the operating system right from the desktop. High potential for effing up your system.

Still, it was cool. I dug it.

I kind of like that element of fear - the way computers use to be. Kind of. I think you can get into it just that easy, from what I've read.
