i had a boss gig last night in, of all places, corby. i talked about the band raging speedhorn (they are from corby, dontcha know?), cage fighting, the fact that we have a senior minister whose name is ed balls, mentals from school, and my dad's wedding. there were loads of people, including loads of young people, and everybody there seemed ( Read more... ) -
the summer holiday is going well.
a day when i think about little other than comedy, baseball (pitcher jordan tata, on his first major league start, came through for the tigers [and me] last night! boom!) and jazzing up a myspace page is a successful summer holiday day. there was not a single moment spent on decoding the work of academics who are incapable of writing in a legible ( Read more... ) -
i'm actually on summer holiday now.
writing over the past few days has felt a little like pulling a sword from a stone when you're not king arthur. i've been sitting at my computer all morning every morning, as well as most afternoons, but only about 1.3% of my time is spent writing. i can't really bring myself to think about any more (i check my myspace approximately ( Read more... ) -
richard linklater double feature.
pete and i did a richard linklater double feature yesterday afternoon on campus (the afternoon, rather than the evening, is my main time for doing stuff at the moment because i'm waking up super early so i can faff about in the mornings). the two films we watched, slacker and waking life, could easily be part of the same film 'franchise'. neither ( Read more... ) -
we've been pretty fortunate.
with all these mental floods in the area, and reading of vampesscherry and owenniblock's misfortune at ground zero, we've come out unscathed. when we were watching the news yesterday pete noted that, with every new report, the reports were getting closer and closer to leamington (i think they eventually got as far as a nearby village in south warwickshire). the town ( Read more... ) -
i met a man last night who had escaped from a buddhist monastery.
that was probably the best thing about the gig last night. i was compering the jug & jester in leamington. they have a regular comedy night there on the last thursday of every month which is generally well-attended (although for some reason i never wholeheartedly enjoy it), but i was compering a preview of okse's edinburgh show which was a ' ( Read more... ) -
we've talked often in the past about how our house will come into its own during summer...
...but now that summer weather has finally stayed with us for more than four hours, i am really reaping the benefits. our kitchen has an enormous ceiling, with a wooden floor in the eating area and faux brick work in the cooking part. i think that this all makes it feel loads like the kitchen of a farm house - it definitely reminds me of the ( Read more... ) -
i think i may just have committed multiple acts of bug genocide...
...but sometimes it is the only way. previously i have prevented ant leakage by covering the small crack in the door with paprika, which ants do not like to walk over. however they seem to have got wise to the fact that paprika is not poison but spicy goodness, and today were preparing to make base next to the sink. i took down them and their ( Read more... ) -
my ability to be awake at 8.30am...
