Replying on the umu matter here so the Japanese text will show? (It seems to paste as gibberish in my compose email page...)
I notice Mitsurugi going umu a lot when reading dj too. XD Anyway, I went and played (i.e. fastforwarded through) a GS1 case in Japanese and compared with an English script on gamefaqs.
Examples:
あー、うむ。．．．ど、どんなものだろうか。
Umm... well. I wonder?
うむむ。
...
う．．．うむ。
Umm... hmm.
And one by Grossberg:
う．．．うむ。そ、そうじゃ．．．。
Er... y-yes. Yes, quite.
Seems like the official game translators just go with context. No wonder Edgeworth doesn't have a umu-equivalent speech preference. So whatever you think is good should be good.
