Adjuncting is the worm which gnaws at the vital organs of Academia. When the pillars of her institutions collapse to dust around her, and she struggles to stand amidst the rising tide of ignorance and filth, she will hope to sputter out a cry for help. Silence be on her lips, and her hacking will produce only phlegm. All will have averted their eyes, so that none might say whether the worms burst through from her belly before she finally fell, or if they merely leaked out after the thud. Mourners the onlookers are not.

There isn't any health insurance!
Or job security, or any sense of being a valued part of the department.
There are lots of horror stories out there of personal experiences. I followed rateyourstudents.blogspot.com for a while when it was active, that had some fun mentions. Inside Higher Ed has some good things sometimes too, maybe? I don't really hunt them out as much.
But yeah. Plan A is a position with some job security in higher education (ie, tenure). Plan B is not second class professordom; teaching high school or whatever is way more attractive to me.
