Turns out the problem that was bugging me all of today and a good chunk of the prior few was a sign error. And now it's fixed. Ah, research, how beautiful you are.
Now it's on to grading my hefty chunk o labs. This will require the good whisky, and the snowman stickers.

Firstly, I don't think I've seen the sun since Thursday. That's a bit longer than I think is ideal. Nextly, my house eats lightbulbs. I don't know why this is. Another one was lost to the hallway today. These are dark times.
They are! Last two weekends, I was up at Dartmouth for Homecoming and Sink. It's odd having the two big draws back to back. I confused Gabe, he saw me last Friday and thought I just hadn't left all week. Quite to the contrary - I spent the intervening week doing all sorts of work. What a bother, that work is. But! I had a fantastic time visiting.

I have renormalized the massive scalar field! And not just in the "subtract infinity" sense! I could totally show this to math people, and they'd have to be like, yeah, the stress tensor totally vanishes. So, this is a victory. Next up is making this work with a different choice of modes, and then onward to a nonzero potential! Ever, ever onward.
