I think that there is more of an emphasis on reporting mass killings due to the prevalence of the media. I also think that percentage-wise, things are about the same but admittedly we have increasing numbers of people in closer proximities than we used to ( ... )

I don't think the percentage of people flipping out and killing people has increased, really. But since there are now more people (thus meaning more people within that percentage) and more 24 hour in your face media outlets, we hear about them more often than we once did.

I think the main cause of ppl flipping out is being mistreated without satisfactory recourse, or in some cases, without knowledge of the availability of satisfactory recourse, because the info is so obscure that it's only seen in hindsight.

I don't think ppl are flipping out any more than they used to. In fact, I don't even think the media is covering it any more than they used to on a per-capita basis. Ppl tend to forget the news of yesteryear due to the limitations of memory.

It's just that ppl are using more violent means than they used to, because the capacity for violence of the technology available increases as time goes on. Banning weapons won't work. You'd have to ban almost everything, including cars, lighters, etc.
