This meme is the result of a collaboration with andyredrum. I know this is by no means a complete list, and I'd love suggestions for movies to add or ones to remove.

But here are ( 170 movies you should have seen if you want to call yourself an educated person )

Your list is way better than the other one.

Suggestions to remove: Godfather III. I'm sorry, but the third one is not nearly as good as the first two.

Suggestions to add: Diner. This movie inspires some serious nostalgia for people who grew up in the 50s and has a really good cast. I didn't love it, but I can see why some people do.

you'll never see all of metropolis, too much of the original was destroyed due to primitive storage techniques. the dvd out now is the best we'll ever get. i agree that godfather iii needs to go, and i think they remade "to kill a mockingbird" in color, so i hope you were referencing the original.

I debated a while about putting part III up...but you guys are right. It has nothing to do with the novel, either, which displeases me. And I had no idea they remade To Kill a Mockingbird...but IMDB says they did in 1997...I was indeed referring to the 1962 b&w with Gregory Peck.

Hmm...121. And I thought I hadn't seen that many movies. Well, a ton of 'em I've seen in the last 4 months, what with my new Netflix subscription. Can I make a suggestion? Pretty Baby.

Good list!

My father was an extra in that film, used several times throughout. Those are the only images I have left of him.

Which scenes was he in? I just ordered the film after a recent trip to the Columns hotel. I will definitely look for him on screen.

Filmic images can be as comforting as they are haunting.

The one scene that stands out is a scene at the train station. He is a soldier dressed in uniform. It's been quite some time since I've watched it, so I don't remember the others.

I've got 111 of these, but take issue with a bunch of them. I don't think that watching "The Lion King" means you are an intellectual. "Austin Powers"? Yeah, it was funny, but not intellectually stimulating. More "funny" in that potty humor type funny, but a 13-year-old would laugh at fart jokes. I don't remember seeing any foreign films or many independent features. Where's "Pi", "Dancer In the Dark", "Amorres Perros", "La Mala Educacion", "Magdelene Sisters", Cyrano de bergerac", Run Lola Run", "Princess and the Warrior", "Waking Life", "Memento"...man, I could go on and on.
