I'm feeling so miserable this week, and then also feeling embarrassed at my misery because I am so incredibly fortunate that none of the horrors really impact me (except for my April vacation to St Martin... which really sucks but of course is nothing in light of the actual devastation

So sorry this is going on for you and Felix. Time will change this but it SUCKS. Frank has been in the same daycare since 8 months and I sometimes think about changing but am terrified at the transition. I see it in kids who join his class too.

Are your parents OK for the storm?

My parents are physically OK because they are in Asheville for hurricane season always- their apartment might get damage, it did last time there was a big hurricane.

I'm a little worried about my in-laws and Norman hasn't been able to reach them.

I was also going to ask about your in-laws. Are they in the evacuation zone?

In the hour since posting this, I've checked the storm models which are now putting my in-laws' farm directly in the line of the worst of it, and I've been calling my MIL and FIL over and over again with no response. I have texted both of Norman's brothers to see if they've heard from their parents and haven't heard back yet. The Roses aren't exactly glued-to-their-phones people so I expect I'll have to wait a bit, but I'm getting increasingly panicky about it.

My mother was suggesting maybe they evacuated quickly and didn't think to check in with us first? That could be the case, since I could see them packing a bag and putting their cellphones in it and putting the bag in the trunk or something. Being 76 and 81 year old farmers means they just aren't that insta-connected.
