Perfume

Mar 30, 2007 22:12

Had the strangest thing happen last night. I was dreaming and as I was beginning to wake, I smelled perfume. A very floral perfume. Pretty strong, no mistaking it. I was afraid to open my eyes because I thought there was some woman in the room; that's how real the smell was. And it didn't disappear as soon as I woke. I was a bit freaked out ( Read more... )

I've found that certain smells trigger some of my most vivid memories. It's almost like smells bypass the regular brain circuits and have some sort of primitive back-door way into our consciousness. My dreams last night were all about slicing bread and taking pans out of the oven and searching for the buckets of glaze. I hate it when I "work" all night!

So did you go to the museum or did you stay home?

I'm concerned our visit there will upset Andrew. Will he be thrown for a loop at strangers and their things in his house?

How do you like LJ? Are you thinking of friending anyone else? There are some very nice people on my f-list if you are so inclined.

No, your visit will not upset Andrew. We will talk about it well ahead of time. If he expects something to happen, he's okay with it. Before you come, I'll spend time talking with him about who will sleep where, what our plans are, etc. Recently we had a family of 5 from South Dakota visit us for 3 days. It was a family the kids had never met before, so I was a little concerned he would be nervous. The parents are friends of ours from our time in Ohio. They have 3 kids: a girl who is 11, a girl who is 8, and boy who is 4. I prepped Andrew for days ahead of time about who the kids were, showed him a picture of the kids, what kind of activities we might be doing, where they were going to sleep. And he did marvelously! He didn't have one meltdown while they were here. A few bits of anxiety, but no meltdowns. The girls loved playing with him. In fact we've noticed that he seems to do better when we have planned company. Just like he doesn't usually meltdown at school. I think he has some idea that it is not okay to do these ( ... )

Back in the early days of my LJ-ing, I felt like I had to have funny, quirky things to talk about or people would consider me boring. Well, I guess that I'm just boring anyway, because worrying about being clever or deep took all the fun out of it. Like you, I just post about my days, and leave the witty stuff to the professional bloggers.

I was just looking at my f-list again. I've met most of them through a message board I belonged to for several years: TheOneRing.net. And a fair number of them I have met in person, at various Tolkien and LOTR get-togethers I've attended. A couple of people on my f-list have been friends-of-friends that turned out to be kindred spirits--like bojojoti. grrm is actually an author--George R.R. Martin, and I have him friended just to keep tabs on when his next novel is getting published. He's written an amazing series called "A Song of Ice and Fire", but he's left us all hanging after the fourth book. Come on George! One other friend, koinegeek, passed away very suddenly last year of a brain aneurism. I never ( ... )

Yep I just feel that I'm not one of those witty people. My intent is more just to get my thoughts out of my head, and if people want to read, fine, but if not hey that's okay too.

I remember the one woman friend from New Zealand that you had visit you here. Did you meet her on-line or had you met her previously? Are you still in touch with her? Sounds like you've met some really interesting people. That is tragic about your one friend that died suddenly last year. We never know when...

Keep Scott slaving away on the screen porch! Paul and I are supposed to grill steaks tonight. I wonder if that will actually happen since he was gone till 3am last night working. I'll have to prop his eyelids open with toothpicks because I have a NEED for steak.
