Dorian was, actually, quite bored.

To the usual passerby, however, it would seem that he was very much the opposite. With a beautiful redhead seated in front of him, bar stool turned so she could lean on his shoulder as she laughed into his neck, it seemed like he had it made. How could any man be bored with THAT right in front of him?

Ah, well. ( Read more... )

Perhaps she wasn't just any passerby - but Adriana definitely caught the picture Dorian had painted. Merely doing some shopping of her own in Diagon Alley, she had spotted Mr. Grace by pure chance. She certainly didn't expect to have to see him while not being forced to work with him.

First, she was merely humoured by spotting yet another random woman with Dorian. Not long after, however, the amusement transformed into repulsion. Passing the display off anyway, Adriana continued on and moved to the nearest dress shop, only to find she had become inexplicably thirsty ( ... )

Dorian, usually very observant, was completely unaware of Adriana’s presence. Not that he would have cared, anyway. She’d made it obvious she felt nothing for him, and, for all extensive purposes, neither did he. Why she would find his current situation so repulsive, he couldn’t say. Surely she’d seen her fair share of questionable circumstances?

As the bartender set down another glass of wine, the redhead sat up a little straighter, leaning over to take a sip as Dorian himself reached out. He sat back with an amused smile, eyes focused on hers as she drank. Once the glass was back on the bar, she leaned in, he leaned in-

To find himself eye-level with the basooms of a rather familiar-sounding voice.

“Brilliant,” he grumbled, sighing and dropping his head for a moment. Dorian fixed Adriana with a little glare, not quite happy to see her, no-

“What?!” he and the redhead exclaimed simultaneously, sort of jumping back. Dorian stuttered at her, shocked she’d say something like that, especially because… well, Adriana hated any ( ... )

Yes, her quickly thought up sabotage story did imply that they slept together, but that was... incidental. Dorian was right, she loathed the mere idea that they would ever be shagging now, but Adriana wasn't thinking about that. The easiest way for this to work required knowledge of some intimate details, so she lied.

Not like that was something new for her.

Sighing again at his initial reaction, she ignored the fact that the redhead had also given one. Looking wide-eyed at Dorian, Adriana's hands rose up a bit in defense. "Hey, don't get angry at me, I'm trying to help!" Brows furrowing, she glanced down towards her feet, crossing her arms. "You weren't even that fantastic, it's not like you can take another strike against you with this 'rash' business ( ... )

Dorian knew lying was something she was very skilled in, but he was still surprised that she was so quick to jump to the lie about their intimacy. She could have pretended to be his doctor, or something, even his concerned sister. He didn’t really expect that sort of tale from her; usually Dorian was the one to… go there.

But hey, whatever. He’d see this as a free pass for him to make it up to her in the future.

Dorian refused to play along and merely stared at her coldly, as if trying to challenge her to keep going. After a moment of silence, he finally spoke up, voice deep and threatening. “That’s funny, Adriana, as I seem to remember you thinking quite differently some time ago. By the way you said my name over and over and over again… well, perhaps I was mistaken ( ... )

Yes, that as well.

Uncomfortable?! He wouldn’t have expected that one! He just thought he was making her angry, he never would have thought she was uncomfortable. Was Adriana Winters EVER uncomfortable?! That was… very, very surprising ( ... )

Oh, Dorian always found some inane way to crawl under her skin and make her uncomfortable. Yes, it didn't happen often, but he managed to do a lot of bloody aggravating things to Adriana that nobody else could.

Yes, sadly, his threat surprised her. Of all things, Adriana didn't think Dorian was willing to kiss her just in order to stop her from pulling from his grip. "Have I ever not?" she returned pointedly, thrusting her arm just to prove her point.

Not that she wanted Dorian to actually kiss her, of course. HELL no, it was far from it. Her point was for him to try, in which case, she would promptly smack him again and possibly hex him. He would be the only one not walking like a normal person ( ... )

Aw, it was a pity she didn’t tell him that. He would have loved to know he made her uncomfortable.

Oh, she WISHED. He wasn’t going to bloody kiss her now. Merlin, no. No. She shouldn’t flatter herself.

… Except, um, he always sort of wanted to. But, er, that wasn’t common knowledge. He never spoke of that.

“Because you’re not anyone special!” Dorian shot back, still glaring furiously. “Fine, fine, maybe I shouldn’t have done that, but it was merely in return to your stupid stunt. You set yourself up, I only gave you what you deserved. I apologize if you’re so embarrassed, that’s just a weakness for me to focus on.

“And please don’t play innocent, you know you do the exact same bloody thing!”

“What the bloody hell are you TALKING about?!” Dorian nearly shrieked, sounding very silly. He wasn’t… together. Usually, he kept his cool. Usually, he was calm. He couldn’t ever remember losing his temper like this and making it so obvious, and over something so stupid!

“Got you?!” he demanded. “What does that even mean, you twit?! What ( ... )

"Perhaps I need to explain the difference," she said slowly, very condescendingly. "I am a Pureblood," here she paused to point at herself before continuing, "and you are not." Adriana then pointed at him.

"Embarrassed?" she repeated incredulously, letting out a mocking sort of laugh, wanting to strangle him. "Try disgusted. Repulsed. Incensed. At the unfortunate mistake of ever believe that you were worthy of me."

It was rather alarming to see Dorian so flustered; he was normally the one that was actually able to stay calm, whereas Adriana always lost any patience she had remaining.

“Well, I did get you, didn’t I? That tactic has worked in the past…” Dorian's comment is what set her off to slap him, and she remembered all too well exactly what he had said back in the pub.

"What the hell do you think I mean, you son of a bitch!" she shouted, taking the last few steps of space between them to push him, hard. "If your masquerade as a Pureblood hadn't lasted so long, I never would have been so senseless as to shag you."

… Okay, she was sort of right. Flirting, though, was very different from making a physical move. He couldn’t help but flirt, that was just part of his personality. Whether she wanted to admit it or not, Dorian was charming and knew that flattery was an excellent deception tool. Besides, it was something he liked- it earned him shags and fights, both of which were rather enjoyable.

“I took you out here because you were causing a scene,” he corrected, resisting the urge to roll his eyes at her once again. “Pardon me for not wanting to embarrass myself in front of a bar-full of onlookers. Hitting you only made the move worth it, but it wasn’t because of that.”

“I, unlike you, don’t act on impulse,” Dorian replied, lifting his chin a little, defensively. “Just because I haven’t done anything yet doesn’t mean I wont do anything at all. You know me better than that.” He smiled, though it lacked any real humor or emotion. “Don’t worry, Darling, you’ll get your retaliation ( ... )

"You did not simply 'take me out here', I was already leaving when you decided you'd redirect," she said bluntly, having no problem with correcting him yet again.

"Fighting back when someone is attacking you is not acting on pure impulse, it's common sense," she retorted with a scoff. "I could have easily killed you, by now, you ponce. It's a pity I didn't just keep the Cruciatus on you."

She didn't choose to give Dorian an answer, only made a slight 'mmhm' from somewhere in her throat. The comment was supposed to piss him off. Adriana had to resist a smile at his show of anger, however short it lasted.

Yes, the image of the two of them on the side of the street, positioned like they currently were might look a bit bizarre. Adriana, for one, didn't mind all kinds of places to snog or even shag, but on the ground outside wasn't really one of them ( ... )

“There was no threat of that happening,” he replied calmly, wondering how she’d react to that. Dorian knew Adriana would never murder him, he did. For as much as she hated him, there was still a grudging amount of respect between them. He was confident Adriana wouldn’t do that.

After a moment, he asked another question. “Why didn’t you? Keep it on me, I mean. I know you’re fond of it.”

Ah, no, Dorian wouldn’t do anything of that sort here, either. Streets were for walking, not for lying in. Even though they were much more casual than usual, Dorian’s clothes were still very expensive, and he was still very much concerned with getting them dirty. He wanted to be out of this sodding ditch five minutes ago ( ... )

She rolled her eyes at his answer. It was just an expression! Of course Adriana would never really kill Dorian. The respect would remain, regardless of how angry he could make her. Quite honestly, she couldn't fathom a situation where she truly would want to murder him.

"I am fond of it," she confirmed idly, "but I like variety. This is just the foreplay, if you will."

She'd love to know why he thought he couldn't leave. That she wouldn't give him his answer?

Standing just behind his left shoulder, wand pushed lightly into his neck, she weighed her options. Oh, another Cruciatus was tempting, but perhaps something smaller would be a better build up, a hex not so much painful as humiliating. It was clear neither enjoyed the dirt.

"Incarcerous," she muttered quietly, moving her wand from his neck to his feet, ropes wrapping around his ankles tightly. She took a step back, waiting to see how good he was at keeping his balance.

"I believe the saying goes 'be careful what you wish for', no?"
