This is interesting. I'm totally guilty of the "Fat Acceptance is cool but I still need to lost ten pounds" thing. (Although that may be an eating disorder thing, not a bad feminist thing.)

Well, I think [and, again, I'm so not speaking from experience here, and am therefore not the most qualified judge] that it's often really hard for a woman to not fall into the "...but I need to lose ten pounds" thing, because the ENTIRE CULTURAL ENVIRONMENT persists in telling women exactly that.

So this has nothing to do with anything, but have you read "The Alphabet Versus The Goddess" by Leonard Shlain? If not, you should, I think you'd enjoy it. It's basically about how written word killed the Goddess and led to patriarchy. I have to read it for school (remember by as-far-left-as-you-can-get-women-are-the-best English teacher I told you about?), and I've just started it. I'm resisting it a little so far because I've heard from a lot of kids who have read it that it's complete bullshit, but considering the subject matter, I think you'd like it.

Well, it sounds a little peculiar--I'm quite fond of the written word, myself, and it's hard to conclusively prove the existence of Goddess-worshipping societies (my understanding is that most primitive societies were--surprise!--STILL PATRIARCHAL). But it sounds like it would be quite an interesting read. I shall look into it!
