"To eat red meat with anything resembling joy in the most liberal and environmentally conscious and vegetarian-happy part of the nation is a bit like being from Salt Lake City and claiming you really love anal sex. In church. While sipping absinthe."
This passage has had me giggling for the last several minutes. It may even require repost.

Though oddly his article doesn't point out any of the carnivore-catering establishments in San Francisco where there's always a crowd, and not a soul struggling with their consciences.
I'm just annoyed that there's only two places that I know of in the city to get decent buffalo. Elk is near to impossible. And if anyone knows where to get decently prepared Kobe's please let me know.
The best reason I ever heard from someone that didn't eat a lot of meat as to why - cause the mood/taste for it didn't strike them very often.
Question though, aren't vegetarians by definition range fed?

Not odd for him at all, actually. His signature style (which I have yet to see him deviate from) seems to be to take one point (and one point of view) and present it as a nearly stand-alone item of interest, filled out with whatever happens to be going on in his head that day. While he does strike a chord on some of my own mindesets now and again, overall I read him because I find his writing highly entertaining.
I don't eat in the city much, so I don't have any good recommendations for the rarer meats ; ( I know where to buy them for home cooking however, if you're interested.
As for the veg heads being range fed...Well, legend does have it that vegetarians just taste better. Never dated one, don't know ; )
